Im in a bit of a dilemma, well not a big one but enough for me to want some opinions to see what the general consensus is, I am going to be moving from the west to the east coast and im going to be driving my taco and towing my wifes ford fiesta. I am going to be getting new tires for multiple reasons and I am already sure of what ones I am going to be getting (bfg ko2) the dilemma here is, is it better to get the better tires now and have better traction in the different road conditions, I am more than sure we will meet, or should I wait until I get to Virginia so I dont put a couple thousand miles on the tires I just bought.

My stock yokohoma tires have plenty of treat so im not worried about that mt biggest concern at the moment is the possible road conditions, the route we are planning on taking is going through colorado and the mid states all the way east, I have never been through any of those states (other than Cali and AZ)

Im assuming you are taking interstates East? Since you said you have good tread still on your current tires, keep them for the trip and use up the tread. You will have no need for extra traction taking highways across the country.

Yokahoma what? Street tires? A/T tires? M/T?

I'd say buy new when you get there if the old tires have plenty of tread.

But I have no idea what tires you have...

But I'd buy new when you get there. Interstates should be fine unless you get caught in a sever blizzard.

Sounds like you'll be fine with the tires you have on your truck now. No need to beat up a new set of KO2's right off the bat. I just put new KO2's on my truck this fall you will love them. They aren't cheep but look and ride nice. Good luck man.

Agree with the above, use up your old tires and get new ones where you get to your destination. Interstates are usually kept clear, so bad weather shouldn't be much of an issue. Where are you going in VA?

Unless you are taking trails or gravel the entire way there save your new tires purchase for your new home

I went through this dilemma last year before a cross country trip to Moab (from NC) and several other NPs in the Southwest. I decided to keep my BFG ATs (with about 50k on them) mounted for the trip. They did fine and I'm still running them now after moving to El Paso - my plan is to get every mile (and cent) out of these tires before replacing them with ST Maxxs. Keep them properly inflated and rotated, you'll be fine.

It sounds like you're going to stay on the pavement for the trip; my vote is to put the cross country mileage on your Yokohamas. Then upgrade when you're settled on the East Coast.

You'll love the KO2s man. Awesome tires. I feel like the truck is on tracks going around corners.
