Disclaimer: I am not an audio geek. Nor do I want to be one.

All I want is more bass on my non JBL entune radio.

Can you all help me achieve that with a limited budget and no stereo knowledge. Can I simply add a sub woofer to the stock system? And please do not refer me to some $500+ system. I simply want more bass and to keep the stock speakers I have.

You will need some sort of line converter to splice into the stereo harness to get rca outputs To the amp for a sub, if you dont feel comfortable splicing into the stock wireing harness for the headunit you will want to get a plug and play t harness similar to the crux one for around 100$, splice in the line converter to the t harness so it is 100% reversible if needed for warranty etc. At this point you can also add the backup cam anytime mod. For the t harness check the latest bcam thread.

I installed a Rockford-Fosgate PS-8 under the seat in my non-Entune Access Cab last weekend. It sounds great and filled the low-end in the stereo system. 8 inch driver with 150 watt RMS amp.

Did you put it under the driver's side or passenger? Did you lose any seat movement?

I installed it under the driver's seat. There was no loss of seat movement at all.

It gives a nice rumble on the driver's side. I have also sat in the passenger seat, and you do notice less felt bass. It is a small subwoofer and feels directional in the small access cab cabin. I have a large sub system in the back of my Grand Cherokee and it gives non-directional bass since it is in such a large cabin space and it is far away from you in the driver's seat. There is no way to get around the directional felt bass in the access cab, unless you install a second unit under the passenger seat (which is something that I am considering).

ANY 8-inch sub is NOT going to rattle your teeth by an stretch of the imagination since it is small travel driver; but is does give a nice well-rounded, full sound to the factory stereo !!!

The PS-8 cost me $300 and I installed it myself. Since the factory head unit does not have RCA outputs, it took 3 hours to trace & tap the wiring, and I know what I am doing when installing radio systems. I estimate it would cost $200 for professional installation.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! I've already got an Alpine PWE-S8 from my last car that's almost the exact dimensions of the PS-8 you put in, and when doing my stereo install, I tried putting it under the passenger seat with no luck. Granted, it was at the end of the day, and I was exhausted from installing everything else, so I didn't put a whole lot of effort into it. I would run out and test fit myself, but I don't have a garage (or a driveway for that matter), so I have to install everything at a buddy's house. Looks like I'll need to find some time to get back over there and give it another go.

The PS-8 design has an arched top, so the front and back are lower in height than the center, so it fit with no problem. If the entire case was 3 1/8 inches tall, I would think there would be fitment problems under the Tacoma seats!

The non-Entune radio does NOT have RCA outputs, so you need to splice into the factory wiring harness.

So how does the crux harness mentioned above help splicing into the head unit?

I did not know about the Crux harness adapter when I did my installation. I wish I knew about it before I did my install. It looks like it is an extension that plugs in between your head unit and the wiring harness. It should work fine, but I can't personally verify it. I would buy it, if I would have to do it again!

Do you mean non-JBL or non-Entune?

I have this installed behind the rear passenger seat. I'm out of town or I'd add a pic. It's a powered sub that does have rca input. I added an LC6i and kicker amp.

I'm not a big audio guy and this adds plenty of bass. I've actually turned the bass down, since install.

Just read about these tho I'm not sure how good they work for bass. You'd probably have to look into the butt implant ones for a better base sound.

I wonder if I installed the crux harness can I hook up a sub with it and still use it as a phone mirroring set up? I've been wanting to get it for phone mirroring anyway so this might be a good option.

Does anyone have a link to the Crux adapter? I checked their website but I'm not sure which one it is. Also, will the adapter allow you to simply plug in an added amplifier without having to splice anything? Thank you
