Got mine the day before and I've been playing with placement and spacing.

Question for people who've already installed into their grills: how did you ensure proper alignment to make sure the letters ended up straight? Did you put down masking tape at the edges, or...?

I'm probably going to tackle at least adhering the letters this weekend so any advice is much appreciated.

Did you figure it out? I would make up a grid with masking tape for the alignment...

Okay, so the long short of it:

Used artist's masking tape to plot out my alignment (which was pretty easy since the grill mesh has horizontal lines) after measuring 50 times.
    20170128_091350.jpg
    20170128_093640.jpg

A co-worker got me a SHEET of some 3M VHB stuff that was super thin. Like only 2mm. Who knows how much that shit costs (never got the actual part #) but I traced the backside of the letters (some of them clearly had been more *roughly* handled on once side, and since I want to keep them bare metal had to pic the best side) and then cut them out with an x-acto knife.
    20170128_092652.jpg
    20170128_093701.jpg

I used gloves and rubbing alcohol to clean the surface of the letters I was putting the adhesive on and also hit both the adhesive and the letters with heat to promote adhesion.

Things went smoothly until the last damn one and one of the legs of the "A" folded over onto the other... FUUUUUUUU!!!
Had to use the scrap pieces to fix it, which I think I managed to do sufficiently.

Next I used some 3M 94 adhesion promoter to... promote adhesion. It's actually used a LOT in metal working/machine shops to make sure shit sticks together.
Basically the tube I used is like a glo-stick where you "break" it and it mixes, then gets the "applicator" wet and you can kind of dab/paint it on. Put gloves on and use in a well ventilated area.
It stinks. I did 2 coatings but when it dries you can't really tell where it was, only that you know you put it there. Not even sure if it matters over powder coated metal but fuck it, had some and went for it.
    20170128_104909.jpg

Putting the letters down was pretty easy considering how stressful aligning the adhesive to the backs perfectly was.
Again, heated up the adhesive and contact area for additional OCD to make sure it stuck.

Put everything on and let it sit for about an hour or so when I went to the grocery store.

At the store I picked up some Loctite 2-part "everything" epoxy/glue. I just wanted to make sure there was a really good bond.
Trying to take it off would be a giant pain in the ass at this point. If I decide to try to do this again I'll just get more grill material and letters... less hassle!

    ----

Now I need to do the really scary part and remove and hack up my grill... I may do that this weekend depending on if I strike out on any tindr dates, LOL!

Final plans are to either black out the chrome on the grill or color match the silver on my truck. Still not sure yet but I can do that after the mesh and letters are applied.

    Looks great @orezona nice write-up!

Any other previous buyers have some pics of the letters mounted on your grille?
