    Hello,
I have a 2005 Tacoma that was diagnosed in Mid January 2015 for a frame replacement due to rust. I was originally told it would be in and replaced sometime in late March. It is now August and still no replacement. The Toyota dealer seems to have no idea when it will be in. Is this typical for this recall to take this long?
    Thanks,

From what I understand - - Yup, that's how long it can take.

I'm in the process of buying a 2007 Tacoma that's scheduled to have the frame replaced in mid-August. The original owner got tired of waiting, and sold it to the dealer. I think the dealer took possession of it in March, and it may have been earlier that that.

Your just lucky that your Toyota dealer didn't take immediate possession of your truck, that's what's typically done, and they give you a loaner CAR.

1 tech is doing 2 trucks per 6 day week.
    I am scheduled for Thursday-Saturday.

I got a call yesterday, Monday Aug. 17, the salesman told me that the FRAME IS IN. I said to him "You finally got the frame!" and he said that what he meant was that: the frame had been installed on the truck! He had last checked on the truck on Wednesday, August 12 - NO FRAME. When he checked on it on Monday, the frame had come in and been installed!

I go to Toyota on Friday, to do a second test drive, just to make sure everything is correct, before completing my purchase.

    Sad Ending...

After waiting 5 months, I finally got the 2007 Tacoma that I wanted, with the New Frame, New Leaf Springs, New Wiring Harness. All the stuff that they replace, when they replace the frame.

    So Far, So Good.

Fast Forward to June 30th of 2016. I've had the truck for about 10 months, and I love it! Where the Hell do you get a 2007 Tacoma with only 25,000 miles...with a Brand New Frame and Leaf Springs?

All I know is ...I Got One!

One morning I was going to get a few items at the grocery store, but I kept putting it off, until the early afternoon. I'm coming home and rounding this blind hairpin turn up a very steep hill and...

    BOOM!

Just as I get through the turn, this 2001 VW Bug slams into my Tacoma at about 40 - 45 MPH. There's no way in Hell that anyone could ever make that turn at that speed.

17 year old girl had never been on that road before. There's a driveway exactly where the turn is...she thought the road went straight...where the driveway was.

She hit my Tacoma Square in the center of the Driver's Side rear wheel, the axle.

Broke the Axle, Broke D.S. New Leaf Spring, Killed the Wheel and Tire. Knocked the Drive Shaft off, knocked the Trans out of position and oh yeah...

    She Bent The Frame!

The Brand New Replacement Frame Was Bent!

    S.O.B.!

Long, Sad Story...Short. Because of the difficulties getting a new frame for the Toyota Tacoma's, the long wait, my truck was declared a TOTAL LOSS.

YUP. Because I would have had to have a rental car for 3 - 6 months, the truck was declared a Total Loss.

I wound up getting about $1,000 less than what I thought the truck was worth. But that's the way of the Insurance World. I was told I was lucky to be getting so much for my truck.

I started my search for a Toyota Tacoma in Excellent Shape all over again. What a pain in the ass!

I looked at so many trucks that I became Truck Dumb Struck! It was mind boggling how fast a Tacoma would fly off of a lot! Listed this morning - gone this afternoon!

Or, you think you've found the right truck, only to go and look at it and drive it and...NOPE, it ain't worthy.

I took a 2012? for a test drive, it had only about 12,000 miles on it. It was a pretty stripped down truck. The underside was a bit too rusty for only 12,000 miles. The story was that an older couple had lost their son in Iraq and just let the truck sit for 4 years. That's why it was so rusty underneath. ANd...the salesman wouldn't budge on the price...at all.

I finally found a 2013 with about 32,000 miles on it. It was in pretty darn good shape, a few things here and there, but that's what happens to some trucks. I was tired of searching, and this truck was good enough for me.

They wanted $27.500. My wife didn't want me to spend that much. They said: TAke the truck home for a day - test it out. I did. My wife came home and blew a gasket! Steam coming out of her head and all.
She thought that I had gone ahead and bought the truck.

As circumstances turned out, I drove my wife to work the next day. As I dropped her off I said: what's a good price for this truck? - $25,000 is what she told me.

I took the truck back to the dealer - I offered them $25,000 - NO! - Too Little, but I got a "let me check with my manager" - $26,000.

OK. Call the wife, she sez - OK - I got a newer, sort of, truck. That was August of 2017.

I'm pretty damn happy with the truck, so far. Again, a few little things here and there, but I'm OK with that.

I'd first have shown them the reframe and how much it cost. I'd then have beat this idiot's ass for being so stupid.

I Argued with my insurance company for at least 6 weeks, getting exactly...nowhere.

They just didn't care about how Great a shape this truck had been in, prior to the accident. The Body was still fine, after the accident, very, very minor damage to the DS rear cab, to the rounded area behind the DS rear door. No damage to the bed...at all.

My insurance company made it Crystal Clear to me that if I wanted a truck, a Toyota Tacoma, I'd have to accept that my truck was a Total Loss, take the check, and find myself a different truck.

I argued with them, asking/telling them to find me a truck in the exact same condition...No Reply to that one. Because they just don't exist, but I HAD one for 10 months.

This just reinforces what everyone already knows - Insurance Companies SUCK! No Heart - They're all about the bottom line, and quick resolutions to open cases.

What I should have done was take the money, buy my truck back from the insurance company, buy a beater for a year and get my 2007 Tacoma fixed - on my own. But, youz guyz that have a wife, and want to stay married, know - you better take the check. Cuz the wife will insist - "No Wrecked trucks in my driveway!"

    Hindsight is always 20/20.

There's a point where you realize that you're getting nowhere, and you'd be better off giving up the fight and taking the check.

I'm getting too old for this sh*t!

I relate. I get away with my share of nonsense as a married man but there are limits.
