Last night I decided it would be a great idea to attempt putting a switch on the speed wire for the navigation system, thus tricking it in to thinking i was parked by cutting the signal. It all went splendidly, although it took about 2 hours longer then it should have. The problem that I have now, is that my ABS system is not so happy(see pictures). Apart from the two error messages below, I also get a flash of red, and more serious looking, error message about the brakes every minute or so but only just long enough to read then it goes away.

As far as I can tell the brakes work fine, although I have not tried putting the abs to the test yet.

Could I have blown a fuse? I checked the big square abs fuses in the engine bay and they both looked okay(although it was dark).

Is this something that just needs reset? Maybe disconnecting the battery for a few seconds?

    Resetting might work.

Quick question, what grit sandpaper are you using to clean your dash? My god that thing is scratched up! :itllbuffout:

Yup, it was purple. And it does work, when i hit the switch, it will let me put in an address while moving. If i hit the switch the other direction, it makes contact again blocks me out of putting in an address.

Yep, chipped up wood. Fine for glass surfaces but never ever use it on plastics. Not even on window tint.

Fortunately I knew of this from motorcycle helmet visors and sunglasses and never f'd up an instrument cluster. At least the clear plastic cover is about a $22 part over at partznet.com

So essentially your telling the truck that the vehicle is stopped while the truck is getting signals that the wheels are moving? No wonder your getting error messages. I'm getting confused just thinking about it

The problem is that nobody else has mentioned this kind of fiasco, and the instrument cluster speedo still works just fine.

Do you have the Tech Package? I thought I read somewhere on here that the mod doesn't work with the Tech pkg and causes errors like what you describe.

More details of the exact wiring and switch setup. Is it truly wired up as an SPST On-Off or is there any chance you might be inadvertently grounding the input from the harness?

Do you have the same issues if the switch itself is disconnected?

I've not yet done this mod so don't have much else to offer.

OK so do you have a switch that physically breaks the connection or a switch that grounds the signal?

No tech package. TRDOR manual 4x4 with no fancy options

Yes, just a few minutes ago i left the switch so that it would complete the circuit, then disconnected the battery for a few minutes, came back and got the same error messages.

    Physical break.

That may be your problem, you may either have to ground the line or inject some sort of voltage. Depending if it's a hot line or not. If the signal doesn't have anywhere to go, it could give you the error messages

If its a simple physical break, I don't understand why I'd need to add a ground or voltage. All i've done is replace a section of wire with the switch(essentially). Flipping the switch just connects the two ends of purple wire(like it would be if I hadn't done anything). Flipping it back should just break the connection. Ground wasn't present originally, and i'm not removing or adding any voltage that wasn't already there.:smash:

You don't know if the head unit is using any pull-up resistors that would present a ground or a voltage. There is more going on than just breaking the wire I would imagine. I just don't understand why you wouldn't pull off the road and enter an address vs. hacking into the wiring of a $35K+ truck. I don't mean to be a jerk but tech these days have more behind the scenes than just solid state wires. Good luck.

The radio could be looking for a ground. If there's no ground, its not gonna work. First thing you need to do is take either a volt meter or a test light and with the vehicle at a stop, find out if theres any voltage going through that wire. Then when you start moving, observe that wire to see if voltage increases or decreases.
