Yea your's are white. The 55w is suppose to make them more yellow too. Approx 1000k more..

I'd rather mine be closer to the color of my halogens. So may end up with 55w 4500k if they are closer to 3500k...

 

Yea I am hoping to keep it nice and simple but cool too. Nothing super flashy or anything. I like the DTRL Halos and blinkers.

 

Okay, that's what I was worried about. I'm sure I could make the mounts work but the width would be harder for me to work with as I don't have a tubing bender. The best I could do to solve that problem would be to cut the pipe at a straight section and sleeve it to make it longer and add width. Still tempting though....

 

That's right. I forgot you were going with 55w ballasts. I guess it'll be hard to compare them then. My 35w, 4500K bulb output to your 55w, 3800k bulb output.

 

Yea, im going to ask if i should just get the 4500k bulbs anyways if at 55w they are 3500k.

Or stick with the 3800k and it would be about 2800k...supposedly..

Idk, im not a fan of the bumper to begin with despite the price haha not sure it would look good on a tacoma.

 

Headed out for a few hours on the ice. Preppin for the tourney next weekend. First time out ice fishin in almost 2 years I think.

 

2800 seems too warm. I wonder how bright they would be.

Making a good looking rear bumper for the Tacoma seems to be something of an impossibility. At this point I've given up on looks and I'm looking at price vs utility. I've scraped my rear bumper and side panels now so I have two choices, armor them (which makes a new hangup point) or chop them. I like the chop them idea because it leaves nothing left to really struggle with armoring, you can have a reinforced bar that just runs around the edge of the chopped portion and tailgate. That's something I could make easily on a budget, the issue comes in when I plan to put a swingout on (problem is the same with the CL bumper). Tube or plate rear doesn't really matter to me, I think plate is easier for me to build with considering my tooling.

Edit: Forgot you actually make the best looking of all the 1st gen Tacoma rear bumper choices, unfortunately something like that is out of the question tooling wise for me at the moment.

I do want to know how you rewired your marker lights to be blinkers.

I like my rear bumper Its amazing.

Not impossible to make your own nice bumper. Plenty out there. Making your own plate bumper by hand takes a lot of time and effort. Can be sweet though.

 

I happen to know of a great one you can copy. Just sayin'...

 

@Blackdawg I edited my previous statement as I do like your bumper but you don't produce in volume....

Mike I may have a look at how the main piece is fabricated sometime, I just don't want wrap-arounds... I'd like to cut all of that off of the truck. It is a good looking piece though for sure. It's strange, the bulk of bumpers made in high volume for our trucks are either tube construction or the most bulky plate things I've ever seen. Even the CBI one is monolithic.

Marker lights to blinkers was super easy. Just used the swapped the stock blinker wires up to the bulbs in the corner/marker housing. I am running HO amber colored LEDs in there. I think its a 921 size bulb.

 

Monte's design is awesome for several reasons but one is the fact that it fits up so tight to the body panels. Does not look bulky like all the others and loss of ground clearance is negligible.

I am not a fan of the cut bedside look. IMHO, this is way better.

 

Yea, i wish i could. It being done totally by hand though..not an option. If i had been able to to CNC parts id think about doing them in small batches.

I don't mind CBIs outback bumper but i hate their swingout design. Sticks out super far.

Im not a fan or the cut bedsides. But that is an easy bumper to build.

Did you run your LED pods striaght to the wires or did you run the stock wires to the pods relay?

Can't imagine the stock harness can take a lot of power.

Why haven't you used them? haha I may take you up on it. Or may get some premade black already

 

The stock bulb is 8W I think and Ben's pods can't be more than 12W so I don't think he would overload it, more lights would though.

I don't have plans at the moment for them. Hoping to ditch the stock bumper at some point so won't be putting any bars down there or anything. Just put a white bulb in the stock housings.
