Because snipping a wire and putting a switch on a switch blank isn't what i consider "hacking". I was also expecting this to be much simpler. Also because that sort of nanny stuff that says I can't put in an address when i want to really annoys me.

The real annoyance is that the nanny stuff prevents my passenger from entering an address while we're moving.

I think the problem lies with it being an "off-road" as it uses a different breaking system, only people I have seen with the problem reported is off-road's.

Interesting hypothesis, @CanyonRunner -- perhaps in the next few days I'll throw together my harness and test it out even without mounting switches. Unfortunately my 15+ year old butane soldering iron has gone tango-uniform and its replacement won't arrive until Sunday.

You have the wrong wire. It is Pin 17. This happened to another member here, he had the wrong pin, his anti lock braking system was giving errors.
There is no voltage needed on this switch, all you are doing is breaking the speed sensor connection through a switch, I used a toggle switch.
12 volts is needed for the backup cam mod, but not the NAV mod.

I'm doing this Saturday on my off road with tech package. So we'll see if have the same issue.

It's interesting this person is having the exact same issue as the other guy that had the same wire. Are there multiple purple wires in that connector? Or is pin17 the only purple (he mentioned purple wire).

When you look at connector, it is PIN 17.
PIN 17 is for NAV mod.
Pin 2 is for Backup cam
I dont know what color the wire it is, since I used a harness. All of the wire on my harness are white.

That wire is white. The one next to it is purple. Didn't OP say he cut purple?

That picture may be from a Tundra or different year Tacoma. My 2017 Tacoma OFF ROAD is not like like that.
Here is my connector that goes in too radio. Pin 2 (blue circle) is for Backup cam, requires a Diode and 12 spst switch.
PIN 17 (red circle) is for NAV mode, just cut wire and run both leads to a toggle or similar on/off switch.

yeah I just noticed that. His wire choices don't mess with your pinout. His seems to be all in one row. I haven't torn mine apart yet, so outside of that pic which now seems to be incorrect for an off road, i have no idea.

I would go by the connector diagram I posted. With connector facing same way as picture, top row from left 2 spaces over for Backup cam mod.
Bottom row, 3 spaces over for NAV mod. If you count pins, it is pin 2 and pin 17.

Well whatever happened, that guy selling the kit had the exact issue. Once he swapped to the correct one, the nav disable worked fine.

Anyway, it works great on my 2017 Off Road. NAV mod allows navigation destination changes while truck is moving, allows full access to all phone contacts while truck is moving, allows full access to all setup menu items while truck is moving. This way, passenger can have access to everything while you are driving.

If you really want a nice job, use the harness (adapter) that connects between the factory wiring and radio, that way you don't have to cut any factory wires. I can put mine back to completely stock in 10 minutes or so, if I have too.
Just have to remove the harness (adapter)

*Hangs head in self dissapointment while simultaneously fist bumping the air*

Initially i had cut one of the white wires (referenced from another thread that turned out to be from a tundra), realized i had made a mistake then butted the white wire back together.

I then set about hacking up the purple (correct) wire.

As it turns out, that little white wire didnt stay connected when i put the head unit back in. It is now quite securely connected. The switch is exactly how it was all along, and everything works perfect.
