So, are the bugs out of the 17 models? Or are they (as some say) a Turdgen

I'd say just get a manual transmission and you're gold.
EDIT: I've had mine for almost a year and have 166xx miles on it. I'll have this thing for a while. It's a sexy beast.

That's one full tank. I've gotten 30 mpg when I drive it right from the gas station. Post a pic right before you fill up again. I guarantee the mpg will be different than what you're currently claiming.

Dividing the number of miles by the number of gallons, I never get higher than 18..usually less. Almost all city...and I try not to heavy-foot. I swear I baby it. I'm not complaining though. If I had wanted a Corolla, I would have one. I only have 2500 miles on it. So that may improve some as the engine breaks in maybe?

I now about 20K miles on it and I get about 19 mpg (21 hwy, 18 city). I am aware of the shifting, but I don't think it is a problem.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I do a lot of city driving, so the MPG is to be expected.

My 40 mile round trip daily commute on the highway plus the other half city driving averages about 21mpg per tank. Have owned the truck for a year with 14k miles on it.

I was kind of sad to watch this as Consumer Reports has Toyota/Lexus as the most Reliable, every single vehicle finishes above average except the New Tacoma, hope they remedy that soon.

"No Fiat or Ram product managed to even hit average in our survey"

    Ouch.

BTW, it seems a lot of public libraries have access to consumerreports.org for those with a library card. If you need access to subscriber content check out that option; in some cases it's fully available remote once you have your local library credentials.

Well, yeah, we knew that. Sort of hoped Chrysler would rub off on Fiat not the other way 'round. ;)

(though I suppose neither was going to be an improvement on the other...)

So according to that video, the 3rd gen Tacoma has a reliability rating similar to the Ram with neither being able to reach average reliability.

Someone remind me again, where did chief engineer Mike Sweers come from?

TacomaRocks, I don't think all the bugs are out.
I move from a '16 to '17 TRD Sport 4x4 because of the constant transmission issues. My '17 drives better, but still searches for the correct gear. It still feels like it's 'flooding' - I drive slow, especially from takeoff. A surprising disappointment is fuel economy didn't improve for me - I'm avg 17 mpg, 3 mpg avg decrease. That's frustrating for a penny pitcher like me. One positive, I like the push-button sliding rear window (don't know if it's available in the '16).

It's sad, they dont make toyotas like they used to. If only they made them 100% in japan again, they'd last a million miles.

CR is suspect. I know they don't do ads, blah, blah... But hey still have to sell magazines. T hey can't just run the same stories every issue. Buick is 3rd? Uh-huh...it's just a chevy with different badging.

If you buy into your thinking then why did Every Single other Toyota/Lexus Model finish Above Average? Did Toyota pay them for all their Models and then suddenly when they got to the Tacoma said we are not going to paying you off?
