Drill less license plate mount ??

I haven't seen a drill less license plate mount yet, whether it be from a small fabrication shop or major retailer. My state sadly requires a front license plate.

 

It should look like 2 really small dimples on your front bumper. You should have been given 2 screws. Screw the screws into the dimples. Now you have a license plate mounted on the front and didn't have to drill anything

 

Unfortunately the way the new bumper is designed there's not really a drill less option.

 

Don't stress man, they make great plugs now that are seamless or you could always fill/replace the valance.

These guys were working on a Kickstarter to make this for more vehicles. Perhaps you could inquire on if the 3rd Gen is in the works. I know it doesn't help your immediate needs, but just a thought.

 

How strict are they? I live in socal, people run no front plates all the time including myself. No issues yet from anybody I know.

 

been without front plates on 3 vehicles for 11 years strong. knock on wood.

 

Funny you asked. I have been running no license plate for 7 months now. Cops have seen my truck numerous times. I have to drive up state more for Graduate school purposes in the fall, and the state cops are like hound dogs for obvious reasons, so I am just trying to think ahead. May just keep it as is.

 

Exactly what I did. No drill needed, just a cheap power screwdriver.

 

I waited till the last day my temporary tag ran out. I kept trying to think of a better option and fabricate something cool like I had done on previous cars, 1992 Range Rover and 1979 Alfa Romeo. Finally I ran out of time and just drilled it. Used a black surround and caps over the bolts to clean it up.

 

Same as above, here in CA they are technically required however I havent ran a front plate on any of my last 3 vehicles including the current over 16 years without an issue. Probably can vary based on county though, wouldnt be surprised if they are more aggressive up in LA county versus OC

 

I know several people that have been cited for not having a front plate in the SF Bay Area. Not pulled over, but found a ticket (with fine) or fix-it warning (no fine) from parking enforcement, under their windshield wiper when returning to their parked car. I took off the stupid bracket and drilled directly into the bumper. My truck is 2" shorter now

 

I fabbed up a bracket for my 2015 where no holes needed to be drilled but I have a feeling when I get the 17 its going to be more difficult.

 

You could always just buy some 3M Auto Tape and use that to mount your front license plate. They work great according to the Bimmer forums.

 

SoCal here as well. I used to rock my mustang without a front plate and never got hassled until I got pulled over for something else.

Then it was a fix-it ticket.

I had it on my dash but the cop said it had to be mounted.

The real kicker is that the parking enforcement folks will write you a ticket for it so if you ever want to park at a meter in LA, you're hosed without a plate.

 

Funny, since I just bought my truck a month ago, I've been thinking about how it would be really easy to replicate the front mount that Toyota makes and just install magnets under the front bumper and under the toyota (or aftermarket) mount.

I think that's a simpler solution than what these dudes are trying. Off to get my 3D printer...
