Here goes nothing... HID Retrofit.

This pic is the projectors mounted and awaiting the first alignment. At this stage the bolts hanging out in the rear have yet to be cut down. The blue tape is to keep the shavings out of the bowl while I grind the bolts off. What I learned about mounting the projectors thus far; use the dremel the entire time, the drill began to chip off the rear of the bowl housing and the dremel keeps it clean and precise.

Testing lights with no lens (didn't bother to adjust quite yet) still have to JB weld and put shrouds in. Happy with my progress thus far, and very pleased with the light cut off and steps!

JB Welded the spaces between the bowl and the projector, also the nuts and bolts. I had some JB weld drip down onto the chrome inside the bowl, but was able to get it off before it dried with some 3M Adhesive, Tar, and Wax Remover. Next step is to trim down the shrouds to fit the FX R projectors.

 

Just so you know there is no reason to jb weld the projector to the bowl like you did, and the bolts to. You could of used lock tight on the nuts. When you attach the shroud use high temp silicone to hold it in place. I did that with mine and its been great for almost 2 years.

 

What kind of High Temp silicone? I was going to use PermaPoxy (by Permatex) which is an Epoxy, will that work? If not what is a name brand of a High temp silicone I can get? Thanks.

 

I used the permatex high-temp rtv silicone that you can get at any parts store.

 

i used this black stuff too (permetex 82180) on the retro i did for 1BlkT and plan on using the same stuff for my retro...

just make sure you let it dry for at least 24hours and run the lights on w/o the front lens for like 30 min each to burn it in.

 

Thanks to both of you. We got about 6" of snow tonight (It NEVER snows in SC), so I can't get to the parts store till sometime tomorrow, but I will pick some up.

 

Gatling shrouds require (as others do) to fit the projector. I really underestimated the time that these small pieces would take.



Shrouds still waiting for the High Temp Silicone to bond them to the projector. Next step is to BHLM another set of Headlights to put these housings in.
