I haven't either. I'd rather have the Atkinson cycle than my motor stopping and restarting every time I'm at a stoplight. Think about that one for a sec.! My GF's car has this feature and it's annoying as Fuc! Lots of trade-offs with newer vehicles to meet new regulations and manufacturers trying to win awards for the most seemingly idiotic shit!

The company I work for designs interiors to keep a standing child in the front occupant zone from flying out the front window if an impact should occur under a certain speed! Why the hell would anyone let a child stand in the front unharnessed!!!??? We design cars for stupid people who shouldn't be having kids!

Didn't mean to go off on a tangent, but auto design isn't as easy as build a box with a environmentally friendly power plant and expect it to appeal to everyone. At the end of the day, it's common to hear, "We design machines that kill people, but we try to minimize the chances of injury/fatality to retain customers, so they keep buying our product". LOL.... accidents do happen!

Let's just try to enjoy the product and stop trying to find faults and excuses if there truly isn't a more serious issue. Seems like the more people read and post, they describe the same thing in a different manner and create new threads just for their one "special" problem.

I've worked as a dealer tech many years ago, and I've had people bring cars in for the most seemingly useless complaints. Half of them are usually resolved on the service driveway entrance. Just need to keep a smile and reassure that they're all special customers and every complaint will treated as if they're the king/queen.

OP, don't take it the wrong way. It's not an attack on you. The service end is just as bad. Half of the time, the techs don't know it's a serious issue until more cases show up and corporate steps in to make a service bulletin on it.

I thought the transmission TSB helped with this issue?

Hate to say it, but it's "normal" for my truck. I don't need to be turning the steering wheel or have the A/C on either. Just likes to surge at inopportune times. You'll just learn to be on alert when pulling into parking spots or sitting at lights when the truck is cold sometimes.

I've noticed it as well, It feels like it does more when it's cold. Glad I'm not imagining things and other people feel it too.

Also mine is Trd sport, not that it probably makes any difference

Well hopefully they get their act in gear and address it. I'm contacting my dealer today. I figure it needs to happen whether they do anything or not so that its on record just in case. Maybe it will motivate these guys.

2017 TRD OR 4x4. Same surge problem. Very annoying, and unsafe if trying to fit into tight spots. I had the poor shifting issues, but the Rev 1 fixed this...but still have the surge. I understand that the engine has to idle up to counteract the power steering or ac cycling on, but it idles way too much and causes a really unsafe situation to develop. "Guarding the brake" is a temp fix, sure, but isn't acceptable for Toyota to call "normal"...Fix the issues Toyota.

Mine does it to when you turn the wheel. That's one more thing I dislike about this truck. To you guys that say that's normal that's bullshit never have I owned a vehicle that does that crap.

Truck is idling about 200 rpm to low is why it's so pronounced. The aftermarket needs to get ahold of this truck bad!! This is my first Toyota and everything about the programming is worse than anything I have owned in the past. I would be embarrassed if I was Toyota. Not impressed

Mine does it mainly when cold and sometimes after restart - No wheel turning or A/C. I was exiting a parking lot to the right into a major road. I was looking over my left shoulder at oncoming traffic. I thought I felt something strange. Glancing down I noticed the tach read 1K. What I couldn't see was the truck was creeping forward into traffic. Not Good.

The idle surges big time in my 2017 OR whenever I stomp on the brake pedal. Seems to happen more noticeably when cold.

You're saying the truck moved after you stopped, had your foot on the brake?

Well there are different amounts of pressure one can apply to the brakes....Such as keeping your foot lightly on the brakes in a parking lot...that's when it tends to surge...Which it shouldn't.

Want to really have fun with your brake pedal? Press it a few times in a row and it will buzz like a cell phone going off on your foot.

    Thats "normal" for Toyota now.

Well the dealership will tell you it's normal due to the a/c, not letting it warm up, and/or power steering. Of course they could not replicate the problem. They updated the transmission. Still seems to have an issue, but not as bad. Funny thing is, when I was there, another gen 3 owner was there having similar issues addressed.
