4 inch lift on my TRD Pro!

Hey guys! 2012 double cab Taco here and I'm trying something new here. I thought I'd fill you all in on the process. I had to do some machine work with some drilling to get a 1 inch spacer below the AAL (add a leaf) giving it a total of 4 inch in the back with the stock 1 inch being higher in the back. For my front I have an Old Man Emu 2.5 inch suspention lift and about to put a 1.5 inch leveling kit on top for a full 4 inches on my 4x4 double cab tacoma! First time I've herd anyone do it although I'm sure someone has done it out there in the tacoma world, So I figured I'd let you know if any problems occur like vibrations, CV issues, ect. So far as it sits it rides VERY straight and smooth!! Level kit is on its way! 285/70/17s Nitto Trail Grapplers are going on there I could of went 285/75/17s but I myself like to have extra room in there and save a bit on gas since I do a lot of hunting, scouting and spend a lot of time in the woods. I did order a differential drop and 1 1/4 Hub Centric wheel spacers and am on the border of putting them on or not from these threads on that "Mike" guys truck hitting the rock. My opinion there is he does a lot harder stuff then most and 1 inch shouldn't matter that much with a good skid plate but it kind of does! My tires are 265/70/17 going to 285/70/17 I'm gaining a big inch, so didn't want to take clearance back away with the differential drop. For most guys just mall crawling I would do the diff drop, off roading more I wouldn't. First time on here and I love all the advice on these threads! I also have a Lotus Evora with a Toyota V6 mid engine I love that car. Just sold my 2006 Tacoma, and my 1998 4 runner with 2.7 tacoma motor swap on 35s. I had 4 Toyotas a week ago! But now I have extra cash for clazzio seat covers, weather tech mats on the way! Also spraying my chrome rear bumper and front grill overlay. Have a great week guys!!

I will be loading some photos up soon, when I signed up it was bugging me to post so I did, if I wasn't doing a different type of mod I wouldn't have lol one thing I will be doing is checking all the angles of my drive lines making sure they are close to factory specs with chims and what not. I have access to multiple shops with lifts and tools so not much I can't do with the truck! My truck is a TX truck

Far as I know, that lift won't work. You're gonna be eating CV axles due to the angle

 

Rides smooth, no issues, at the alignment shop very little adjustment needed. a lot of guys are running 3 inch lifts in my town, every 5th vehicle here in WA state is a Tacoma and mine is bigger then most besides the 6 inch lifts. you wouldn't think an inch would be that much difference. oh and the seat covers gave me a 1/2 lift of my ass seems like I'm even sitting higher lol hahahaha

 

Smmarine that's what everyone says, I took it into a shop and had it aligned and they see no issues, was going to do a differential drop but none needed. it's all good brother!!

 

I'd be interested to see your CV angles. Also curious as to the type of spacers in the front.

Most advice here is to not stack lifts. Anything over 3" needs a drop bracket on our trucks.

 

The 1.5 inch level kit is thinner then my thumbnail, which sucked because it was gonna hit from the original bolts so we had to grind the tips off so it would sit flush. I'd say the level kit is 3/4 inch on top of my 2.5 OME shocks

 

If you keep it as is, it would be wise to at least buy some extra axles to keep around. You will eventually need them and wont have to wait for sourcing, ordering, and shippig.

It's all good guys I hear a lot of guys warning of anymore then 3 inches, I've done TONS of research from shops and mechanics they said on most other rigs it would be a problem but Toyotas were made for it and I did it right going with suspension, I only did the level kit because the rear with 1 inch block was 2 inches higher and had planned to do the 4 from all my research

 

Do you have an OME coil on the stock bilstiens?

 

CVs are fine, no need for diff drop I had it ready shop told me all on my preference, drop it and catch the differential on stuff and break a bunch of stuff or at worst case replace CV. I have access to any part at any time at discounted price. the most common answer to all my questions if it's not broke don't fix it! I'm ready for any issue which it runs silky smooth just rolled it at 80 mph and smooth as silk. the only thing I may do is take it to Toyota and have them chim up the drive line and get it back to the correct angle. at least have them check it other then that this truck is a mini beast and I can crank it full turn far from rubbing and getting lots of love

 

No they are not stock bilsteins, it was a $850 kit. The work was done by me and 2 mechanics both of them are friends and have shops in town
