With the ball mount in, I have only a few inches to the garage door in the back to be able to have 2ft or so in the front between the truck and washing machine. It's definitely tight! Tennis ball from the ceiling is actually super helpful. Since we park both cars inside, it's tight. I was considering putting a pool noodle on one side to save the door from banging on the side when getting out of the truck.

Anyone know if you could buy just the retaining clips for when the cover is open for an OEM one?
One of the snaps that's supposed to hold the clips came loose on mine and I ended up closing the cover on one clip so its broken now.

Not sure if they are replaceable.

That's super weird... give them the part # and let them know it's coming from Amazon directly. I called both and that's all I gave them. They both told me within a few minutes that they would pricematch without a problem at all including free shipping and no tax. Maybe try calling again in a little to see if you get a different person. I believe they are different companies located in different states but I could be wrong. I went with Realtruck because they are also in the same state as Access since the two were the same in reviews and customer service it seemed like. One benefit of new is the warranty but if you find a great deal for used, that can be a better deal sometimes. These things last forever from what I've heard.

Ah okay sorry if you have a long bed. I have a 2017 DCSB and that's the right part #. Either way they should still match it. If they don't do it the next time, you can ask to speak to a manager. You can even reference their website. I'm pretty sure they both it listed somewhere that they will match.

I'm thinking about buying a tonneau cover for my Taco. I was wondering, how much do they start off at? I'm looking at either the LT Series or the LSII Series. Thanks.

Yeah I agree entirely with everything you said. I had the same problem with trial and error of the bed height and having to push pretty hard in as I torqued it down. Once I finished the PITA install, I was super happy with the final product for the same reasons you listed. I love how low profile it is. I'm glad you're happy with it!

Great post. Thanks a million. I see the OEM bed rails remain in place with the installation. How is the cover clamped into/onto the bed rails? Can you post a close-up photo? Again...thanks for this article.

Are you referring to my post about the Access Vanish? If so, more info and pics below.

There's 4 brackets that bolt on to the factory bed rails that hold the tonneau cover rails. I painted mine black so that they better blend in. Factory bed rails are left in place and are usable. Some other covers requiring lowering the factory rails 1-3 inches. The only thing with these is that if you want to use the cleats you have to have them in place before you mount the tonneau cover rails. You can still slide/reposition the cleats just not remove them from between the mounts since you can't rotate them 90deg if that makes sense. It's pretty awesome that the cleats work, the cover is so low profile, and you don't have to lower the factory rails.

I stole the idea from another user, I forgot who. I think it helps it blend a lot. I just used a simple can of matte black spray paint. A few light coats.

I have a 2017 AC 4x4 on order and was doing some research on roll up bed covers. Hopefully the info here will help others who might be trying to decide what bed cover to purchase.

The primary feature I was interested in was being able to remove the cover quickly and easily, hopefully without tools, when the need arises to haul bigger/bulkier items that really ought to be secured against the front of the bed, like appliances. I also wanted to retain the use of the adjustable factory bed cleats if possible.

First, here are my definitions for the various criteria I looked at:
Removable: Y = cover can be removed without tools; N = tools required to remove cover
Height: how far the top of the cover sits above the bed rail in inches
Mounts: does the frame of the cover mount primarily to the inside of the bed rails or sit on top
Fits 3G Tacoma: Y = the cover is available for the 3rd Gen Tacoma; N = Nope

Truxedo Titanium – ‘hard’ roll up, aluminum slats under a traditional soft roll up cover
Removable: Y Height: 0.75” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
Truxedo LoPro – traditional soft roll up with auto tension adjusters
Removable: Y Height: 0.75” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
Truxedo Deuce – traditional soft roll up plus front 1/3 of cover can flip open for access to front of bed
Removable: Y Height: 0.75” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
Truxedo Truxport – side rails slide into ends of header rail, frame must be disassembled for the cover to be removed
Removable: N Height: 1.5” Mounts: top Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
Truxedo Edge – traditional roll up cover with higher profile; not available for 3G Tacoma
Removable: Y Height: 1.5” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: N

Extang Express Tonno – side rails block entire cargo rail so cannot use factory cleats
Removable: Y Height: 1” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
Extang Revolution – not confirmed, but probably the same mounting approach as the Express Tonno
Removable: Y Height: 0.5” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y

Access – for all models, tension adjusters bolt to side rails and header, requiring tools to remove
    Access Limited/Original
Removable: N Height: 1.5” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
    Access Literider
Removable: N Height: 1.5” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
    Access Lorado – low profile
Removable: N Height: 1” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
    Access Vanish – lower profile
Removable: N Height: 0.5” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
    Access Tonnosport – lower profile
Removable: N Height: 0.5” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y

Weathertech – same as Access Lorado?
Removable: N Height: 1” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y

Gator Basic – header bolted to side rails - could maybe use wing nuts to make it removable?
Removable: N Height: 0.75” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y
Gator SR1 – side rails hook into header bar
Removable: N Height: 1.5” Mounts: top Fits 3G Tacoma: N
Gator SR2 – header bolted to side rails - could maybe use wing nuts to make it removable?
Removable: N Height: 1.5” Mounts: inside Fits 3G Tacoma: Y

Truxedo Truxport. Took about 20 to 30 minutes to install. $239 at ************************. They price match. So far I am pretty happy with it. I do not expect it
to keep all the dust out. I got it to keep stuff dry on road trips. I have a mat in the bottom of the bed so any water that would get in will go underneath. I wanted a cover that would give me the most flexibility for hauling large items. I felt a hard cover would take up too much bed space after folding it back. I had a trifold by Fold a Cover on my F150. After 8 years of being in the AZ sun, the seals over the hinges dried out and cracked and started letting water in.

One note: you can use cleats AND have the nice low profile-ness of the Access Vanish  I have it and love it.

Truxport truxedo roll up $239. Just put it on and Love it so far! Got a good soaking rain the other day and it was dry inside when I looked. Regardless it's priced right, looks tight, doesn't stick out and look obnoxious, it's light and quick to roll up to load my bike.

Love the cover but will more than likely end up selling it and getting a canopy. Reason being is I can't find a bed rail bracket and bar system that will 100% work with the access cover in order to carry bikes and keep my gear somewhat secure and dry. Whereas with a canopy I can put the bike up top on the rails or inside depending on the situation.
Not knocking the Access tonneau cover though, it was super easy to install, function and fit are perfect, quality seems to be top notch (held up well in sub 30ºC temperatures) and the price was right.

Just picked up the Extang trifecta signature 2.0. Surprisingly not a lot of info on the difference/benefits/cons of this one vs the original signature, or any reviews on the 2.0 really. Right off the bat, there are only 1 row of stitching vs the older model which used 2 rows. Wish I could see these side by side. Price is about the same too though I suspect the original will be running out eventually.
