I couldn't agree more that these trucks are underpowered in terms of low end torque.

I've had mine for about 10 months and have about 11k miles on the clock. Comfortable truck and think it's great to drive around town on side streets or on back roads all the while getting about 22mpg. But then when I get on the highway I feel like I'm going to have an aneurism driving the thing. Not enough power to keep the transmission in overdrive. Spends so much time in 4th gear sucking gas down like my old GM 6.0 2500. My highway mpg in the Tacoma often drops to around 16mpg.

I thought the intent of overdrive was for to keep down your RPMs at highway cruising speeds thus increasing efficiency. With 2 overdrive gears, it's a shame my truck tries avoiding to utilize either of them like the plague.

Yes, I've had both tsb's. The first completely eliminated the reverse to drive delay. And so far with the second tsb, I haven't experienced the random shift flare anymore. So they really have helped in some regards.

But I guess to clarify my thoughts with the truck, it isn't necessarily underpowered. It does have some grunt when you push into it. It just seems that the usable power band falls into a higher rpm range than my stock truck is geared for.

Kerr dog will tell you to trade your truck or get rid of it because your truck is perfect and you're just too picky

I feel the truck is geared way to tall. perhaps some shorter gearing would help keep the rpms in the power range.

I never have said these trucks are perfect. I have had my issues also but they have been corrected. I will say that I would never keep a truck that drives me nuts like you have stated yours does. Depreciation loss or not. I for one do not have deep pockets where the depreciation loss would not matter to me also. Toyota may not ever fix your so called issues if they do great but if they don't then you have to live with that also. I know people have had legit gripes about these trucks but I stand behind live with it or get rid of it if it bothers you that much. Being on here and griping about it daily is never going to resolve your issues. It also is not going to stop someone from buying one if they want one no matter how hard you gripe about it on here. Most folks that own one probably have never heard of TW and will never see the issues you gripe about. I would like to know what you think you are getting accomplished by all your bashing. Does it make you feel better when someone agrees with you. There is always going to be unhappy folks like yourself and happy owners of this truck. Lives to short to keep something you hate.

It's your personal opinion and decision to keep or get rid of the truck. You're wrong that feedback here has not affected folks' decisions to purchase the 3rd gen.

Not enough to matter in the overall picture. If you think you have really put a dent in Toyota sales you are fooling yourself. I bet I could set at my dealership for a year and when ever Tacoma that got sold I could say haven't you saw what Smitty on TW has said about these trucks and they would say who the hell is Smitty.

Not at all have I put a dent in sales. But I do refuse to expect a subpar product.

I agree I dont expect subpar either. My truck is not perfect but it gets the job done. If it didn't I would get something else.

You living with the transmission shifting this is excepting subpar. I drove 2 brand new ones on the lot last week while mine was there and they are all jus like mine. Yours is the same way they all do it. Some people like you just live with it.

And let me say this. It's the best looking best tech Tacoma ever made I like the style the size everything other than the drive train. The aftermarket needs the n this computer in a bad way!! Toyota has no clue what they are doing as far as tuning these trucks and it has shown in the last to revisions.

My truck wants to stay around 1100 rpm it will down shift on the slitest hill then jump right back up to 6th ect. In town is worse for me it's up and down all the time. This transmission will be wore completely out by 100k miles at this rate. This truck never needs to drop below 1600 rpms while driving imo. It doesn't have enough torque to maintain any speed at 1100 rpm.

The TSB on mine took away 99 percent of my unsatisfactory feeling. Not perfect but close enough for me.
