Did you get on the inside of the frame that runs along the sides? I find it very difficult to properly remove the rust and get por15 in there.

I did get the inside of the frame along the entire truck, until it boxes in at the front and you cant reach in. When I got to that point, I used a rattle can full of this frame coating and rust converting stuff that you get a big long bendy straw with so you can get all the areas. I forget the name just now but I'll remember it later I'm sure haha. Needle scaler worked fine to get the rust on the inside of the frame, just get the miniature one and not the full size 2 handed one.

With a foam brush, paint the outside of the frame with wheel bearing grease and spray biodegradable motor oil inside the frame and body panels. repeat grease treatment every two to three years and oil treatment every one to two years. we live in the rust belt. One friend has every car and truck he has ever owned, some up to 40 years old and they are totally rust free. I trade my cars when they are ten to twelve years and have NEVER had any rust areas for decades in any car or truck. Rust maintenance is a yearly inspection and treatment.

The oil spray takes 20 minutes tops and it treats already rusty areas and stops it dead. The newer biodegradable products makes the treatment safe, effective, easy and cheap. You don't need expensive material, just a dedicated garden sprayer. The biodegrade.motor oil is 6 to 9 bucks per car or truck for three quarts and a tin of red grease is cheap. Paint ? You can never get the frame factory clean to make painting as effective as oil and grease treatments. oil literally creeps more effectively then paint to get to areas that are not directly accessible. Unless you completely remove the frame, you can never do as an effective job that motor oil does in hidden crevices and where welds are which is the biggest rust prone areas.

Oil and grease works simply because they are each an insulator which helps keep water out and stops rust where paint is more pourus. You put dielectric grease on your battery terminals for the same reason, to insulate and protect from corrosion.

If I ever get a new vehicle I will definitely be using fluid film on the frame. I hated the look of mine, so I did all this work, and it was absolutely worth it.

I got a recall note about the leafsprings possibly snapping. I have to make the time to take it in though. I'd probably just buy aftermarket leafs, do this treatment on the frame (unless its got actual holes in it and cracks) and then call it a day.

I have to ask, why come to this forum if you hate Toyota so much? Do you just want to warn people about them? Mine is 12 years old now, and it runs and looks great. There is an odometer thread with people posting over 500k miles, saying they only replaced basic things and did normal maintenance. Sooooo, are you just making shit up?

Wow! Definitely appreciate this! I went thru the whole frame recall (wrote about it here: tacomaproblems.com) and will definitely be using this as a guide for prolonging the life of the new frame! Thanks!

I would agree that it shouldn't be necessary if you have a pretty new frame. I'd use fluid film on a frame in good shape, where my procedure was to bring it back from being ugly. Thanks for the positive message either way :)

Uh go look at all the recall threads. I wish I made this shit up. Leaf springs (breaking and bending) and frames. Just search a few pages and you will find tons of common problems on these trucks. Bed bolts. Interior lighting. Dtrl that melt the housings. Squeeky windows. Weak bed. Tailgate that bends. Just a few off the top of my head. I bet you can double it.

You really should sell that piece of $&%# TRD Sport and buy a better vehicle. I'm sure ya can since a smart guy like you cant possibly be upside down in a 2011 truck. Nobody gets upside down in a five or six year old vehicle especially when they are known pieces of $&%#.

I got the undercoating done from new from a good place and nkw touch it up all the time with just basic fluid film and the thing looks great still

So there are a few things that have popped up that need to be fixed here and there. The 2 biggest being the leaf springs and the frame, which have been addressed by Toyota. So to state that it's just a "10 year" truck, is a gross exaggeration of a few problems that you claim are all over the place (yet I've experienced none of them other than a rusted frame, which wasn't recall worthy).

So again, why come to Tacomaworld if you absolutely hate the truck? Go somewhere else and enjoy your time doing whatever it is you like.

Unless of course you are just trolling for reactions?

All he does is complain, bitch, and whine.

Hates tacomas. Hangs out on a Tacoma forum.

As a guy who makes a living as a corrosion engineer... solid work man. It's hard, and often uneconomical, to do it 100% perfect, but your work is about what's truly realistic.

Thanks man I appreciate it. I researched for a long time before pulling the trigger, and it was extremely time consuming and not very fun. I suppose I just love my truck enough to put in the work (and it's paid off, so that is motivation).

Oh wow, what a turd. I'm all for having opinions and being allowed to express them, but he seems to just be a standard troll. What a waste of time haha. Do the mods frown on this sort of thing?

It's ridiculous that he wastes his time like that. I'm wondering if the mods will get tired of it and kick him off.
