Among other modifications being discussed and considered by my myself and some local Taco enthusiasts is a 360* camera system adding three more cameras to the current rear-view camera. The thought here is to hack the Entune and create an app that will allow viewing and control over all four cameras one being mounted in the grill the remaining two in each side mirror. And perhaps although possible we haven't delved deep into it but a dashcam mounted in the interior mirror. This isn't as hard as some might think and could be very useful, I for one would really like a grill mounted camera which would aid to no end parking since the snout of this truck makes it hard to see what's dead ahead when up close. As a side note and some might think it a bit much but the Hilux has power folding side mirrors and that spot to the left of our mirror adjustment knob is where the switch goes. Many systems available to "other" markets can be applied to our North American Tacos too. What do you folks think?

Man I was thinking the same thing. But how would u merge all 4 to do a birds eye view. If that's what u r thinking.

you would need to take the video feed from the rear view camera and all the other cameras, then get a control module to stitch the images together and output to the head unit.

From my limited knowledge with the VW system, the computer uses the forward collision camera in the rear view mirror, the two downward facing cameras in the side mirrors and the rear view. The control module then monitors and "records" the footage from the cameras and fills in the camera blind spots, then outputs to the head unit and gives you a birds eye view.

That is precisely what we're thinking and could all be done with software as it's done now with IP based surveillance camera systems. Even the mirror based dashcam would be controlled by software. It's all possible but would require kissing your warranty bye bye as it would be hacked and wired into the electrical system. There are however aftermarket systems currently available that are standalone but we're wanting to make this look, feel and function like factory or we won't bother. I/we hate mods that don't look like factory or belong there.

True that. It'll be a bad ass mod.

Is there a way to back up the software of the HU. Then write what you want. If it needs to go in for warranty work can't it be written over. Then back?

Give me/us a month or two to dig deep into my Taco to see what's what and how to make it all work together and look factory. There are other things going on but it's too early to mention, camera systems are old news for vehicles even birdseye view is old news. I'm pushing for an included dashcam because people drive like idiots these days and need to be recorded but it's not a deal breaker.

Sounds awesome if you can get it to work. Had a rental Infiniti SUV and it had cameras for a full 360 view that would pop on the screen.

We haven't gotten that far, I still need to get what I want/need done to my truck before it becomes a test mule.

I am going to bet that the 2018 Tacoma with Safety Sense has the birds eye cameras on the Limited like the 2017 Highlander and RAV4 Limited have presently...

Then that just makes life easier for all concerned, the parts will be available as I know most already are whether Toyota or Lexus.

Do you need to know, or care?
Tacoma is not on the list of safety sense in 2018, so you may have to wait a little later.
