The list I read shows the vehicles that will not have Safety Sense by this Fall and it did not mention the Tacoma as not getting it like the 4Runner/GX460 and AE86 and the Mazda 2 twin (forgot the Toyota Versions name). We will see redesigned versions of these vehicles sometime in 2018.

I would be intetested in this. There are already some vehicles that have this option available, so it is doable. Just above my electronic knowledge to figure out how to add this to our existing trucks. Good luck with your endeavor.

given other toyotas like the Rav4 have that birds eye view camera shit, I wonder how hard it would be to retrofit those systems into the tacoma.

I'll be looking hard at the Rav4 system, like I said most if not all the bits to make this work are Toyota/Lexus parts and available some just not in North America.

yep my convex mirrors for the jetta when I had it done was from a place OEMplus and was imported from europe as north american models at the time did not have the convex mirrors.

as were my tail lights since the euro model had LEDs with amber turns.

I've got a plan for this too, seems the reflector component of the Taco tail light assembly would make a fine amber turn signal.

Do you need to know, or care?
Go here and read those that will, Tacomas are not listed.

Yes, those selected 2017 vehicles have it today, I am talking about the 2018 models.

    Toyota Safety Sense* TM
Toyota believes that no matter the destination, everyone deserves to arrive safely. Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) offers an advanced suite of safety features standard on virtually all models by Autumn 2017.

Toyota deploys TSS in two packages, depending on vehicle: Toyota Safety Sense C and Toyota Safety Sense P. These two packages will be offered on 2017 and 2018 models representing approximately 90 percent of expected sales in the coming year.

Twenty-five out of thirty Lexus and Toyota models will include Lexus Safety System +™ or Toyota Safety Sense™ as standard equipment. Model-specific target dates for offering these advanced, active safety packages as standard equipment will be announced at a later date. Models that will not offer the systems standard by the end of 2017 include Lexus GX, Toyota Mirai, 4Runner, and 86 (jointly developed with Subaru), and Scion iA (developed by Mazda).

You've got a Japanese Market! I just had my dealer pass the mandatory pre-inspection. Because Tacoma is large, the government here requires front and side camera to be installed. If this system becomes available, it could replace both of these cameras. Let me know when you are ready to launch!

TSS ... I wonder how GST is going to complain about this bumping against the TSS package they sell.

Please elaborate, I understand TSS but who or what is GST and how or why would they complain? AFAIK, in the aftermarket world you pretty much can do as you please so long as folks are aware warranties might be voided by certain modifications.

Considering TSS means Toyota Sport Series I doubt they will complain.

See above for TSS. GST=Gulf States Toyota.

Okay thanks, but I thought TSS referred to Total Safety Sense. As for Gulf States Toyota why would they or Southeast Toyota the largest Toyota distributor on the planet complain? I am in Southeast's region which is why I had to purchase my Tacoma in Houston (GST) because they suck and told me I'd have to wait 4-6 months for my ACLB TRD OR 4x4 Quicksand whereas Mike Calvert in Houston ordered my truck the way I wanted it and had it built in San Antonio and delivered to them in twenty-one days. Let 'em complain...

It means both. I guess that's why he was saying GST would complain. I doubt they care though. I'm not sure if the TSS package is a regional exclusive package though.

its because TSS is exclusive to that region only. you cannot get that package/decals/etc outside of that region so it would conflict with toyota USA promotional strategy across the USA.

if you usually buy a TSS package that has bling on your toyota truck and then see its a camera system, people might get confused.

you have to remember the TSS package (bling) existed well before toyota USA decided to make TSS (camera system).
