Hood adhesive issue that went from bad to worse. I need advice

    Hi all,
I had the issue with my hood that seems to be somewhat common on here. The adhesive between my hood skin and support bracing failed/separated. This caused my hood to bounce and wobble at speed.
I took it to the dealership and they informed me of the recommended fix which was using panel bond to re-secure the hood to the supports ( which was good to hear I did not want to deal with a non factory paint of a new hood). My Toyota dealership doesn't have a body shop so they use a local Chevrolet dealerships collision center. They did the panel bond repair and when the panel bond hardened it sucked in spots on the hood making it look like it had been hailed on.
At this point my Toyota dealership told me the only option was a new hood. They ordered me a new hood and the Chevrolet dealership scheduled the paint and install.
It was finished Friday and my first opportunity to pick it up was Saturday. The hood is covered in orange peel in my mind to a totally unacceptable level. One section of the hood has deep swirl marks and is the only section without orange peel. To me that would seem to show they noticed the orange peel but didn't go through with fixing it. When i got in the truck i noticed tape on the front edge of my door (pieces that didn't get completely removed). When i saw it i assumed they masked off the door and blended the fenders. Sure enough my factory fenders are now covered in orange peel as well.
Both dealerships have been very pleasant to deal with and i don't want to bash them. I'm hoping for some advice suggestions from you guys. By the time i got there Saturday everyone was gone so i haven't spoken to anyone yet. I left the vehicle there. I don't feel like the body shop at Chevrolet will be able to make this right, both of my experiences with them have led me to believe they aren't capable of quality work.
Should i try and reach out to Corporate Toyota? How difficult is this going to be to fix now that the fenders are in need of work as well?

Any advice on how to move forward would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Austin

It's an unfortunate situation and sadly it will never be fixed to your satisfaction

Even if they ordered new factory painted fenders and a hood and bumper they would screw up installing the parts somehow.

Dealerships employees could generally care less

If you want it fixed to your liking you will have to do it yourself

Wet sand and polish. Any good body shop should be able to get rid of that orange peel.

    Isn't there a hood recall on 2016s?

If you aren't satisfied then you aren't satisfied. Seems like everyone is being an adult about it except for the actual service providers. I'd continue with the Toyota store and of course remind you to document everything.

Hopefully you will find satisfaction soon.

I do not believe there is a recall but maybe a TSB.

What did the dealerships say when you mentioned it to them?

Sorry to hear this. What a pain. I was planning to get this addressed at my 20K service here in a couple of weeks. I might just ignore it and live with it since they seem good at making things worse.

I've been waiting 3 months for a hood replacement. At this point I'd rather buy a sport hood, have it painted and just be done with it. :notsure:

Do they glue the Sport Hoods differently?

Thanks for all your he responses so far.
I'll be in at the dealership tomorrow morning to hopefully find a resolution.
There is no recall that I know of. The issue seems to be well known by my dealerships regional Toyota rep. He happened to be at the shop the first time I brought it in. He told the service manager there was a TSB and told him what material (panel bond) to use. The service manager told me he never found the TSB. Personally if I had to do it again I would wait. I think ultimately a TSB will be available that provides full information on the correct adhesive to use. I believe incorrect adhesive was used for mine. It hardened like a rock, absolutely zero flex. I would think in this application some flex would be necessary. The factory adhesive (though it failed) certainly provided some flex and movement.

OK thanks, l thought maybe they did something different with them, do they suffer from the same problem of seperating?

Haven't seen a sport hood show up in any of these type of threads yet.

the scoop changes the structure of the hood, and there isn't a spot for the supports to delaminate on them. plus they just look better

I think the Sport hood has better support and the flutter is disrupted by the shape.

The non funtioning hood scoop actually has a function. No issues on my sport hood, have not read about any of them with this issue.

I'd hold off on contacting corporate for now. You need to let the vendors have the chance to correct the unsatisfactory results.
