You can, but still needs to be blended.

I'm sure it would be closer match than a body shop....

May be so, maybe not.. I would think a body shop that knows thier shit would be fine. Toyota struggles to have matched paint on shit from the factory at the same time, let alone getting a part out of the factory months out.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
They painted the hood and blended into the front fenders. Likely the bumper and surround as well. Then they cleared the hood and any other panel they blended into.

Some level of orange peel is going to happen... They aren't painting in a perfected factory with robots. BUT...... They can wet sand the orange peel and buff it to perfection.

Give them the opportunity to fix it. Be nice, and see what they can do. If they can't solve it, THEN call corporate. Just expect that corporate wil likely not do anything either. You may need to have a professional detailed polish it out, and then go after the Toyota shop for the $$$.

I would start with your Toyota dealership. They're the ones that are paying for the service, so they're going to have the say in where this goes. The only time I would bring in corporate is if your dealer wasn't willing to work with you. Based on your post, it seems that the Chevy center is where the problem lies. You may need to talk to them about it, so they have the chance to make it right. I went through a similar issue with a bodyshop that I use on a consistent basis. Long story short, I had to have my driver's side door repainted three times due to orange peel. I understand you don't want to stir up anything with the dealers, but you have to speak up when it comes to things like this. If you're like me, it's going to bug you until it's done right. Start with the Toyota dealer and work from there. Good luck!

One member here went through multiple new Hoods from Toyota to get this resolved. The dealer and corporate couldn't get it fixed and in the efforts to resolve it, waiting for parts, etc, the truck sat in the shop cumulatively for upwards of 3 months. Ultimately the member's truck was lemoned. No shit.

    Pretty pathetic.

And all they had to do was slap a jb weld stick in there. Where's the truck at? I bet there's a nice discount on it.

Just checked my 2016 TRDOR hood, I've got some adhesive separation on the bracing. It's cold this week, hopefully warming next week & I'll be calling the dealership to get it in. I thought I'd seen a TSB for this too, keep you posted on what I find out about it & the Rev 1 trans update flash.

There is no official Toyota approved fix (in the form of TSB) to my knowledge. The dealer will outsource it to a body shop and then you may or may not get good results. I'd ask them to hold off on repainting the hood. That's where most issues have been.

Pop-n-lock tailgate. New radio knobs. Rear step.
I wonder if adding some sound insulation to the underside of the hood would damp this out. I'm not sure if it would be more or less risk of hood damage though. Just a thought.

    Hi Guys,
Met with the dealership this morning. Toyota guys have committed to making sure everything gets resolved to my satisfaction. I went in with the attitude that i could possibly be being a whiny owner and being to nit picky. So before I told them i had any issues with the paint I asked them to take a look and tell me what they thought. The really ripped it apart actually made me feel worse about how it looked :. (They even pointed out some things I had missed in my inspection (I was probably too focused on the orange peel to recognize what are actually some fairly significant issues.)
Ultimately, we went to the Chevrolet dealership and went through the issues we saw. Most of the techs and people at Chevrolet were in agreement about what needed to be made right. The collision center manager, unfortunately, was fairly argumentative and would not take responsibility for what was wrong. I asked pointedly if by the shops standards it was acceptable and he agreed that it was not but would not take the responsibility for it being unacceptable. He made reference to the part itself and the primer and the shipping.
Currently they have the truck and are moving forward with one of two options repairing the "sucked in" dents in the original, or starting over with the factory replacement.
Either way i'm hopeful that i get a product back i'm happy with.
Chevy did put me in a loaner Silverado that i thought was nice of them. Not a Chevy guy but they're not a bad truck :). I'd still take my Tacoma (ugly hood and all) in every situation but a race :).
I really appreciate all your comments and advice.
I know its my first post but I've hung out in the shadows for a long time, all my mods from armor to seat covers and remote start to tires are because of this site and the search function. Hopefully i'll have good news in a few days!

Okay, the trans TSB update seems to have made an improvement, driving the same speeds on the same road not as much hunting for a gear. on the hood, the service manager that I took my truck to said he'd never seen that before, looked at me like I did it I thought. They took pics & are sending them to corporate, I told him if I needed a hood, I'd pay the difference for the sport hood. He said because it's warranty, no way, they replace what they take off. He may be right and I ain't got a choice, plus they might just put some adhesive on my existing hood. But if they say hood replacement, I'm gonna push for the sport hood, may not get my way, but hey, I didn't like his attitude anyways & may try another dealer. Keep y'all posted, he said it would take 2-3 weeks.
