k, ladies and gents i was worried this would eventually happen. We know that the '09+ trannys looooove to hang in gear way too long before shifting.
Now alot of you know that this is very very very bad for your transmission. Ideally a shift, be it downshift or upshift should be quick and crisp as to prolong tranny life.
Obviously toyota got the hint as they did a TSB. This TSB only applies to non-trd supercharged tacom's because the tune that comes with the trd supercharger is not compatible with taking the updated tsb.
I have had my taco supercharged now for about 6-7k miles. With the colder weather at higher speeds between 40-70mph my upshifts are taking literally 2-3 seconds at times...Now heres the clincher, already 2x it has slipped at that speed. Meaning the revs suddenly jumped 2k rpms, I let off the throttle and than it hooked back into gear. I'm expecting this to occur more and more frequently until the trans takes a sh*t.
This is NOT from the additional power but from the SLOOOW shifting programing....all you trd supercharged owners out there with '09's keep an eye out for this. This might be also why there is no supercharger kit for the '10 taco's....

Wow that sucks to hear. My tranny flash TSB has already been approved but I've considered getting a TRD Supercharger for my '10 when it becomes available. Now I may have to reconsider.

If they come out with the kit for the '10's I would imagine that they would have updated software AND a TSB for the '09 software at the same time. Worse case scenario is that they wont deem it worthy their time, dump the blower kit for all '10+ models and i'll be stuck with a toasted trans and sloppy shifting

Years ago I would just throw in a shift kit and Ford ATF (it used to have much less slip agent added). Now with all the fancy, schmancy computer shifting, that is no longer possible. Sorry to hear of the trouble, do you think a transmission service will help out? How many miles on the :taco:?

I had the fluid changed in the trans at 3k ( I like to get rid of the break-in materials early ) but yea, back in the day you'd just do a flush with better fluid and call it a day. But now it doesnt matter how many flushes I do or what fluid i use because if the ecu programs the trans to shift like a granny and just shears away the clutch packs than whats the point ? I had the first slip about a week ago and the other occured today. At this rate i'd give it 2 months tops before a cel trips.

Though I know it's not a Taco, I ran a 2003 Civic Hybrid from 70,000 to 135,000 with a slipping trans. Honda changed recommended fluid for a SB, by then it was too late. Mabey Toyota is looking into Trans fluid issues along with the reflash computer shift issues. Tacoma's need an clutchless manual or auto-stick trans :D

There is a permanent fix/solution for you...

Gadget from URD knows these guys...

    http://www.importperformancetrans.com/

They specialize in our auto trans. If you have enough $, they can build it for a 9 sec vehicle. But for about $700 you can get a valve body upgrade and you truck wont be slipping again.

I plan to buy this very very soon.

lol thatd be nice. I know they can do the programming right as i recently had a new camry as a loaner and it shifted up and down crisp as could be. They might have made the shifting sloppy for towing purposes but if that was the case they should have connected the 4hi/4lo switch to that type of shifting. So if you were in 4hi/4lo it would shift slow to prevent slipping of tires and if you were in 2wd it'd shift crisp

I'm not going to upgrade anything. If the trans lunches it's under warranty. Thats why I paid the $$$ extra for the trd supercharger and had it installed at my toyota dealership. Not my fault toyota can't program an auto trans

Has nothing to do with programming. It's simply too much torque for the clutches to hold while slipping.

The stock valve body is weak and you basically ride the clutch everytime you shift. You need the upgrade to hold the extra power.

Now yes you can warranty the trans. But eventually the warranty will be gone and you will be left with one option....IPT VB upgrade.

That being said, how many miles on the truck and blower?

Hey Werty, my stock trd blower belt was shot, starting to chunk apart after 10k miles. Is it possible that during boost if the belt slipped it would cause the rpms to hover and drop and reconnect after boost was back to 0. I know the trd blower is fail safed to rely strictly on the motor should anything occur to the blower belt. I replaced the belt with a gates and it seems fine now but i haven't had the time to drive it alot as i was on vacation. Oh and the douche's at the dealer didn't do it under warranty either. The oem blower belt is a pos btw.

I doubt the belt would slip unless you have some very small pulley's. Im currently running the APR 2.7 and Ive never seen it slip.

The rpms of the blower? Yea I would imagine they just slow down if it ever did slip and once the belt grabbed again it would start spinning. I dont know of anyone that has ever confirmed the TRD belt slipping.

If the belt breaks off cleanly and doesnt get caught on something, you should still be able to drive the truck. The supercharger rotors will be a restriction on the intake, but it should be able to limp to the dealer or the nearest place to get a new belt. I've never tried this, but it should work in theory.

Back to the original topic, I did the IPT valve body to my truck this week. The truck is truly amazing at shifting now. I will post a vid in a few weeks when I get to the track. ;)

Thanks ! i'd love to see the vid. I'm serious though, all i have is the trd blower and trd intake. No smaller pulley no additional mods. On XRU i did see a few people have problems with the dayco belt. My oem belt looked really bad. At all the bends you could see deep cracks. I'm honestly suprised it didnt snap off. My theory on it is that the really hot/cold cycles were too much for the oem belt. I drive on the highways alot so i can imagine the belt heating up and than after parking it sitting in the chicago winter with single digit weather the constant hot/cold would just dry it out. Time will tell if i jump rpm's again. I'll keep this thread updated
