Nice dude! While I did some fun things this weekend, I was stewing, wishing I was there. Looks like the weather was good for the race. Nice to see Harrison Burton grab the win. How was the action? Anybody run off the backstretch? Ever been to a track with no wall?

 

Yeah, Spencer Gallagher did the worst as far as goin into the field. It's was too windy, and freezing though. Overall it's a good track

1st amendment. I don't think he's bringing it to racing though(at least I hope not), it's just stupid Twitter bullshit. Jr. says something and people pay attention and have to throw in their stupid opinion. Nobody gives a f*ck what Joe Schmoe says on Twitter of all things. They should outlaw Twitter, Confessbook, Instagram, all that bull$h!t.

That's not how the First amendment works. Granted, there's a politically (ethically, and the identity of America, actually) charged climate surrounding all of this, but Dale's wording was careful. He's pulling a Bob Dylan and letting readers glean what they want from it. When I was in college for ministry, this was a tactic even ol' Jesus used called "offending the mind to reveal the heart." If it brings out anger within you*, then you have something to search your heart about and reflect on where that anger is coming from and why.

*Not YOU Member1Zillion, just the general "You," like Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin always say in interviews.

 

Umm, well there was that little endorsement party in Valdosta last March and since then several supporting "official" sponsors left the sport and one threatened to drop sponsorship of an entire series (Camping World), and viewership and ticket sales continues to drop and teams had to move to a socialist (gasp!) method of profit-sharing merchandise sales because production costs are increasing (and will continue to increase with TPP dead and a 20% tariff on anything produced south of the border possibly going into effect). So yeah, it's been political. It's always been political. It was no coincidence that Reagan was present for the King's last Daytona win, and George Bush was present for Petty's last Daytona 500, and George W. Bush (or was it Cheney?) waved the green flag for the Daytona 500 one year. It's always been political. Remember "NASCAR Dads?"

But yeah, I tend to agree, keep personal opinions away from the sport. I don't root for certain driver's because I support their personal life choices or affiliations. Still, if they say some really dumb stuff, it will make me reflect on them a little differently. Take Kasey Kahne for example, around 2011 he tweeted something dumb about a mother breastfeeding her child in public. He tagged the post "#nasty" and it pissed off a bunch of moms (rightly so). I wasn't a big Kahne fan before that, but I'm certainly won't be one now. I hope his opinion has changed now that he's a dad. Maybe he can appreciate creation and how amazing it is that a mother can naturally nourish a child. Having made two kids myself, I can appreciate it.

 

I just mean that he should be able to say whatever he wants without everyone else chiming in but I guess that's what it's all about. I like your little asterisk. Most people should use those.

 

There will always be politics in racing, big whoop. What there needs to not be is liberal democracy in auto racing. Oh yeah, we'll just give everybody a trophy for participating and doing the best they could. Don't drink the kool-aid, NASCAR, don't do it! As if!

 

We're already there with the new points system!
IMO NASCAR runs the whole show in a very fascist manor and that bothers me (owners & drivers too).

Re: participation trophies: Baby Boomers created those for their kids because they couldn't accept that their kids weren't the next Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan.

What I love about racing (or anything loud, fast, dumb, and dangerous, is that folks can set personal ideologies aside and enjoy some good fun.

Damn I have the fever.... Been debating on going to another late model race before the season starts

 

I'm probably going to LM races exclusively this year. Not a fan of circus or stick & ball sports.

 

What about Golden Isles in 2 weeks, you goin? I'm probably not...
