Then don't. Just get it. Put it in. And let her feel it in her hands. But seriously though it really is nice. Love it.

If you shop around or wait for a sale you can find it for $10 or $15 less but still gonna be hard to tell the old lady the cost.

This obviously isn't a picture of my truck, but I have this shift knob installed. Weighs in at a hefty 426 grams and is completely made of carbon steel with a special coating on it that resists temperature swings.. if its over a hundred out id be surprised if the knob gets past 70* and when its freezing out the thing stays somewhere near 50*, Ive been very happy since install! Gives a much smoother shift than stock shifter did

more info on the coating? i just ordered a 600+gram ball from Anarchy Motive with a super thick powder coat... been wondering if the temps will be a problem in the Texas heat. and wondering if the coating is similar.

I went with Speed Dawg, Hurst 2 1/4". I think it is a little too big, and bright. I might try their 1 3/4" Black Hurst ball and see if I like it more.

    I used the grommet method.

When using the grommet method, was there any play or rattle coming from underneath seeing is how it's not attached to anything like the oem shift knob set up?

I notched the grommet with scissors for a good fit, and then pushed it down and its held tight. I haven't had to touch it since I installed it. I think it looks pretty clean as well.

Not my idea, I got it from the Manual Thread.

But the grommet kit from Amazon and you don't have to search for it at your local home depot. You'll find other uses for the other grommets also.

Not really sure whats going on with the coating, but I do know it helps out quite a bit. It seems like it might be some sort of rubberized paint sort of like undercoating material but in bright red from the feel of it, its not slippery and shiny like a gloss paint would be but its not rough either somewhere right in the middle IMO

Have you seen anyone attempt to glue the plastic peice from the stock shifter to the bottom of the new knob so that the boot will just reattach?

I haven't really looked into it. The grommet was supposed to be temporary, but it is working perfect and I haven't had to adjust it at all. I think it looks pretty clean.

So.. I got bored at work the other day, decided to mess with the lathe we have in our shop, decided I'll make myself a wooden shift knob. This is just the beginning stages, I turned it out of a cut log from a fig tree. The wood was very damp, after I got the initial shape I put it in a rod oven, tomorrow I'll sand it, and cut the base, eventually I'll poly it, seal it, I'll post final pics when it's all said and done.

I may be wrong but I think the boot would be too short to reach the bottom of the ball. The bottom of the stock shifter looks like it hangs down lower.
