Comfortable Seats?

My name is Timothy, I live in Pittsburgh PA, and I have owned a Toyota 4x4 pickup but not recently. I'm a new guy here, interested in a double cab Tacoma or Tundra 4x4 but have not yet made a purchase.

If I may I have a few concerns that I hope could be addressed by some of the veterans here.

Even before our most recent snow storms I was looking for a good winter 4x4. I owned a 91 Toyota 4x4 pickup that was worthless in the snow until I put in a Detroit Locker LSD. With the Detroit Locker it became unstoppable in snow.

One of the reasons I traded in the Toyota for a 97 SHO was because of the uncomfortable Toyota seats. The seats were not so bad around town but I found them crippling on long trips. I also require durable seat coverings since my 70 LB dog Christopher does most of the co-pilot duties.

I think I can now get either Detroit Locker or True Trac for both Tacoma axels. But the seat issue still bothers me.

Looking at a brochure - $26,750 MSRP, add $800 S&H, $3,720 in options, and I NEED a comfortable seat for that kind of total. Can an auto upholstery shop improve Tacoma seats? Have the factory seats improved in 19 years?

One other new guy question, you veterans would indulge me. When I shop inventory online for a 4x4 double cab they all seem to stripped of all options? Are the sports seats any more comfortable?

Any other suggestions for a Taco virgin?

i really like the sport seats, i have gone in trips with them they feel good to me

Ive done some serious driving across the country this last summer in my 08 dbl cab with my K9, and aside from the boredome of the road, I felt fine. The only advice I can give you is to see if a dealer will let you borrow one for the weekend and try it yourself. Good luck.

I've driven mine up and down the West Coast. No problems with seats whatsoever. I just bought Wet Okole seat covers that happen to have extra padding too.

 

x2 with the wet okole the seats are the most comfortable thing ever

 

The most I've driven my '09 in one day was 13 hours, and I don't recall having any issues with the seats.

 

I like my sport seats w/ heated Wet Okole seat covers...

 

I love my seats. But I don't know if they can take the abuse of your copilot. Might wanna invest in seat covers for him.

 

Yeah, I agree... I got the wet okoles due to the fact that I practically live outdoors, and I have an 8 month old German Shepherd at 75 lbs...

 

My truck is very comfortable, I like the seats better in the truck then I do in my
Camry.

 

My buddy has a TRD Sport and absolutely hates the seats. I think it's the only thing I've heard him complain about.

I've got a bad lower back and I don't have any issues with the seats whatsoever. I find them to be very comfortable. My truck is an SR5 and the seats have adjustable lumbar support. Are the seats the same in the SR5 and the TRD Sport?

I've driven my "05 to NY three times from Florida almost straight through. Try doing it in a single cab ('94 4x4). Now that sucked!

 

When I bought my truck, I flew down to Phx, AZ to pick it up and drove all the way back to Seattle, WA almost none stop.

Trip was about 30 hrs. By the time I got home, my ass was very sore. The seats are comfortable enough. Mine didnt start to get sore until the 24th hr of driving...

 

I found the SR5 seats not supportive enough for me, I love my sport seats. More so if I end up going leather...

 

The SPORT model's bucket seats are really comfortable for me. Much more so than the non bucket style seats.

 

The TRD seats are epicly comfy for a truck... imo. They're a huge improvement over my G35 coupe... Though I will say they're not as comfy as a Dodge Charger (which puts me to sleep they're so freak'n cushy and nice lol). They're probably the most comfy seats I've had.. the only ones I liked better were my '92 Steatlh... but they had power adjustments on every angle you can imagine.

Also +1 wet okole.

 

When I first got mine TRD OR, I thought the seats majorly sucked. My back would start to hurt after like a half hour of driving.

6 months later I either got used to, or the seats broke in, or I guess the back condition that I dont have went away...

My previous was a jeep cherokee, I thought they were very comfortable. I find mine now to be equally so.

 

I have driven as many as 12 hours in 1 day (6 hrs. continuous, 1 hr break, and then 6 hrs. again) and had no problems in my 08 DC Sport. I do wish they had a bit more lumbar support adjustment though.

 

First thank you, to one and all for the useful information. My 91 had 60/40 split bench seat and it was painful driving from Pittsburgh to Dayton.

And even with leather in my car, my pass seat looked like new for 120k them my dog with the toenails and muddy feet can wear out a leather seat in the next 30k. So in a new truck seat covers would be a frequent wear item.

Any large dog is tough on an interior, with out trying to be.

Anyone have experience with a Detroit Locker or True Trac in a gen 2 Tacoma?
