Thinking about selling my snugtop rebel and getting a bed rack and roof top tent. I am really liking the idea of a roof top tent. They seem to be very popular. I am outfitting my truck as a overland camper type vehicle so not sure if shell or RTT is a better choice. Thoughts?

Why not keep the topper and get a RTT?

Good question. Forgot to mention that I want a low-pro bed rack so the RTT would be flush or just above the roof line. I have nowhere to store a RTT so it would live on the truck. This is my daily driver.

Seems like most people go the other route. I'd get a shell, but they are kind of pricey.

Been there done that and much happier now. I can even park in the garage or deck. I also camp about every 3 weeks.

That's sweet. I have a truxedo and was curious what bed rack would work with it. Got any insight?

Curious of why the tent is a better option my self. Camper shell just seems easier and stronger to me.

RCI. Few tiny cuts and on the AccessTonneau Sport and it was good to go. Tonneau needs to mount inboard of the bed rail.

I bought a shell because my truck is a daily

And I can use the shell for more then just camping securing things and having a giant trunk

    I'd keep the shell

Funny, I was opposite.. I actually went from Leer topper with no RTT, then Leer Topper with RTT, then bed rack and RTT that sat flush with the cab, then scored a great ARE Z-series that I ended up putting a Prinsu on and my RTT. Love having a cap to keep things locked up and dry! Also like having the RTT up off the ground so that I can utilize the annex/changing room

    Edit: You're truck is badass!

Good eye. That is a FRO canopy rack on the RCI. Works for now until I go to a 35" tire then it may not clear the garage.

They are nice. But my issue was the height and parking and worry about destroying the shell off-road. All NC trails are just jagged no way around it. You get a ton of side to side motion and I was afraid it would kill a shell.

Found a great deal on an Are shell. Is it really strong enough to hold my RTT? I keep hearing that it isn't ‍♂️

What refrigerator do you have? I’m looking for one that fits under a bed cover.

Skip the rooftop tent. They go moldy and are being abandoned by the dozen. It’s a fad that has mostly run its course. You truck will handle better, you’ll get better gas mileage, and sleep better in a ground tent for a fraction of the cost, hassle, and weight.

Never been to NC trails but can't imagine them any more jagged than the ones in the Southwest. My Snugtop is still on my Taco undamaged. YMMV.
