I haven't for several years. About the only way to make money around here on wheat is to also bale the straw. I haven't had a baler for several years.

dang we used to do wheat straw up till I was 13 or so. 2 weeks every year in june from daylight till dark or a little later everyday but sunday for 2 weeks and it freakin sucked. I guess we may have a little longer growing season down here or somethin. that's about all my dad does is wheat/beans and a few acres of corn. leaves the straw on the ground now for potash thank goodness

I still help a guy a few miles South of me that puts up 6-7000 bales a year. He gets $4 a bale out of it and sells all of it. Trouble is finding any youngsters that will help get it up in the barn.

dang its been 15 years but I think we would do $1.50 if they came got it out of the field. $1.75 if we didn't put it in the barn, and $2.50 if we had to get it out of the barn and delivered it. seemed like he always did close to 1000 acres (of course I may have just thought it was never ending) and we usually had 8-10 folks hauling with 2 trailers goin at the same time (6 of which were me, mom, dad, 2 sisters, and granddad)

Yup I remember back in the early 70's selling it to the local stockyards for a $1 a bale and we had to deliver it. All this is wire tied and nice tight bales. We put about 6,000 bales this year, could have got more but the rains set in.
