There is also the Dutch George campground, with dirt lots and trail on either end of that. Locals might know it as "Dip in the Road", it's the concrete washout section on the curve just past the campground.

Quite a few areas "on the right" now that I think about it. Never considered them as a place to shoot though. Pingree Park is a much better option and closer than where he is going.

Sounds like that to me. Just curious as I've never heard this. Don't wanna walk back there with a rifle and have to deal with authorities asking me wtf I'm doing. Another guy I work with who's a gun nut, said he hasn't heard of this. I'll check it out next weekend

Technically, it's all National Forest, so therefore, legal to shoot. Except for in the improved campgrounds.

I might want to go up there again in a week or two, I'll let you know. Need to play with my new trigger in a non-dry fire environment :cookiemonster:

Funny just looked this up Sunday.

    https://www.fs.fed.us/visit/know-before-you-go/shooting

Target shooting is allowed only in designated areas of a national forest or grassland. Check your local ranger district for more information about where you can and where you cannot target practice.

In general, you may target shoot only if you:

    • Use approved targets. Certain forests may have specific restrictions, such as the type of targets used (i.e. cardboard targets, paper targets, clay pigeons). Exploding targets are not permitted on any forest or grassland.
    • Use approved targets with a safe, bullet-proof backstop. Do not to attach your targets on trees, log decks, slash piles, fences, or water tanks.
    • Practice safe gun handling by:
      • Treating every gun as if it is loaded.
      • Never letting the muzzle of a firearm point at anything you do not intend to shoot.
      • Keeping your finger off of the trigger until your sights are on the target and you are ready to shoot.
      • Making sure of your target and what is beyond.
    • Are not in possession of alcoholic beverages while discharging a firearm.
    • Are at least 150 yards from a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation area or occupied area.
    • Are not shooting across or on a national forest or grassland road or body of water.
    • Are not shooting in any manner or place where any person, wildlife or property is exposed to injury or damage as a result of such discharge.
    • Are not firing tracer bullets or incendiary ammunition.
Remember: You are responsible for your own safety and for the safety of those around you.

Sounds good. My buddy in the springs is planning to come up and install a new stock and trigger in his AR10 so maybe we can plan around that. I'll find out when he is planning to do the swap out.

lol, That's just standard government.... and just exactly where are these areas? I know the grasslands have designated area's, but that's in part from fucktards leaving trash all over the area. I would never shoot there anyway, way too many gung ho types that aren't playing with a full deck.
There are no designated area's, per se, in this part, I've never seen a sign that says "ok to shoot"
I just see signs that say "be sure of your target" Obviously directed at hunters.
And there are occasional signs that actually say "no shooting", like in the campgrounds.

What you shoot at seems to be more of an issue than where you shoot. Certain materials are no longer allowed, like bottles of course. Soda and beer cans have been recently added to that list too, not allowed to shoot them. Too bad too, best BB gun target there is. But I do anyway, just pick up the damn can when you are done.

Not allowed to shoot at wood either, no plywood target stands. Understandable though, they get left behind and look like shit.

I've been noticing a trend with auto-makers. Everything is getting more boring and less fun to drive. Even the little 2 seater convertibles like the MX5 & Z series are getting that way.
Off road? Nah, you've got to do some serious cutting/trimming to fit 33's and it might fuck everything up. Body on frame is dying out, solid axle fronts are as well.
Drive by cable is pretty much dead. CVTs are a thing. Cars just aren't fun to drive anymore unless you modify the fuck out of them. Makes me sad.

So that's actually what is used to determine what constitutes a designated area, unless otherwise stated. I've actually discuss this in depth with the forest service. If there are "no shooting" signs, it's self explanatory and they'll supplement with elevation and defined borders (IE: no shooting for next X miles until signage states otherwise again). If not, you're free to shoot in a non-retarded manner. Which 90% of people ignore.

"Toyota officials have repeatedly said they are not concerned with being No. 1 and just want to make good cars."

That right there is why we'll never get anything cool from Toyota. I've always been envious of the other automakers for the fact they put out cool stuff, Raptor, HellCat, etc then you have Toyota's version of cool which is a 1" lift, orange and black two tone paint, etc.
