I'm flying on A330's the first trip. ETOPS is the same as 4 engines right?

...^^^... For me, I like 4 engines on a big commercial aircraft for load factor (no matter what the extended range) and 2 engines (like the USN) for prolonged use over water.

I saw that big single engine Pilatus aircraft take off today at PDK and I was thinking of ... what would I do if I lost engine power at take off ... where would I put it down ??

It's probably very old school ... but that's just me ... thinking where to land before I take off ... I count seat rows to the exit (in case I have to crawl) on a commercial flight ... had some weird things happen in my life.

I'm with you there, I always want to know what is going on which is part of the reason I can't sleep on planes

Not a concern with aircraft like that. 1 engine will push the A321 just fine. :)

    A twin/piston GA plane?..... now that's a concern :bananadead:

    ...^^^... Yep ... I understand you ... :) ... I should have clarified my comparison better ... A-380 w/(4) :) ... vs 747 w/(4) :) ... vs 787 w/(2) ... all the bigger fixed wing commercial aircraft.

Been on a few 767s over the ocean, never minded. Did like the 777 more though. Prefer Boeing over Airbus myself

Nice equipment even if it's scarebus.

Last 321 I was on I was seated one row from the back, on a full bird, flying CLT - SFO. Felt like it had a yaw damp issue the entire flight.

ETOPS is granted to carries who are certificated to maintain & operate certain equipment a defined single engine time from a suitable landing airport (not only driven by being over water tho that is the say...). It provides additional redundant equipment and a pretty high threshold of reliability for both the operator and across a given fleet. Until recently I dispatched ETOPs flights on the 777 fleet daily. And I would just as soon fly a T7 on a 330 minute etops flight as I would a 747, 340 or 380.

...^^^... To me .... that is "REAL FLYING" :) ... i.e. landing and taking off on the "head of a pin" o_O (in a fixed wing) ... I loved that ...

Edit ... I could watch that video over and over ... looked at it again and he landed that Cub in about the length of the aircraft and took off with with about 1 1/2 times the length of the aircraft  ... granted he had all things going for him ... but still very cool to watch him flare on that incline.
