Okay, so I know where a 2001 Silver DCSB Prerunner is for sale with a blown engine, engine has already been pulled, but they have all of the parts. Oh btw, the truck I was told by owner had 120k miles when engine blew.

The guys son tried taking his tacoma through a mud hole got stuck and gave it hell trying to get out, IIRC I was told that a crank bearing came loose and that the engine ran, but ran very very terrible.

There's no rust, we live in Alabama, so I guess very little, or deemed acceptable rust.

Here's something crazy, the kid also ran this thing off the road one time and it flipped on it side, the insurance said the truck was worth fixing? so it's got a pretty new paint job and shit too. lol

So question is what's it worth for me to buy and put a new engine in myself. Oh and it's automatic.

I will say, it had a ding or two on the top of the bed not the sides, looked more like a little hail damage not trail damage.

The truck has been sitting under a 10' pole barn for 2 years so I'll have to pull it out and do a more thorough overview to check the body, but I will say I was surprised at the condition. Possibly body wise one of the nicer 1st gens I've saw.

Since this "kid" gave it hell and put it on its side and blew the motor, you might have transmission or differential or steering or suspension trouble. I'm not saying you will, but you might think about that before you throw out any of your money.

If you get for $1000, sounds like a good price, put a motor in it, another $1000 or so, would you still feel like you got a good deal? I guess its just how much it would cost to get it running. You might need another grand for any hidden repairs.:fingerscrossed:

I guess 3G's wouldn't be bad since down here in the south east the trucks similar to it go for 8k + with the same miles.

It being stock is another bonus for it.

It's worth that much if you're ready to take on the job it will be fixing it up. You'll probably have to put a couple grand into it... If it was local to me I'd concider buying it for $1k...

I'll probably get it, but the guy isn't advertising it and he works with my brother. I told him to tell the guy wait till I sale my Wrangler TJ.
Hoping to get a pretty penny for the TJ beings tax season! lol

I'd rather the tacoma sit under his pole barn than behind my house in between the basement retainer walls taking on the sunlight. lol

I may offer 800 just to make me feel good though I believe 1000 may be fair.

Tough part for me, were I in your spot, would be thinking about how hard he must've pushed it to have crank bearing slip. Or lack of maintenance that would allow/enable that to happen. And if that's the case, how well would the tranny have held up with similar maintenance and or being hammered on. That's a toughy, I'd be smelling the tranny fluid on the dipstick, checking the oil in the diffs, etc. But these things could very well be just fine.
Just knowing what you're up against as best as possible before making a decision would be key to me.

If it were me I'd jump on it. Even if the trucks a total flop and it needs more than just an engine you could part it out and make your cash back or close to it. Around me guys want $2-3k for busted Tacomas.

Well, I gotta wait for my Turd Gen (jk, I like the truck) to get out of the shop, If I'm towing this piece home it won't be with my F250 it's gonna be with another Tacoma! lol

Edit: it's in the body shop, I had a deer hit me in the drivers door. No jokes about third gen in shop with problems. haha

Carfax... Heh. I wouldn't pay for one, but I guess if seller provides it... Well even then, the possible damage and concern he might be dealing with isn't gonna show in a carfax. I don't even know how a clean Carfax came to become some type of standard.:crapstorm::notsure:
