Wise words, yeah i have a lot to learn. Before I hand over any cash I am going to take it to my mechanic to get a full inspection...Just want to get as much info as I can now so that when i go there to test drive it i can point out the major stuff...

That sounds like a solid plan hombre. That's how most start and get hooked on these tacos. Good to hear you want to learn that stuff. Learning, even just the basics, enough to make wise vehicle purchases can save you tons of money and headache in the grand scheme of things.

If you want a 4x4, wait for the right one, feel the seller out to see if he actually cares about the truck.... and try and talk the seller down to a price at the top of your price range. It's better to spend more for the right truck that someone has cared for.

    1) research!
    - know the difference in years
    -maintenance requirements
-understand common problems and common wear
    -narrow down what you want
    2) test drive
    - locate used car lots with the truck that has want you have in mind.(your not looking to buy but just practice the process)
    - practice going over the car and drive it
    - find the likes and dislikes
    -refine what you want
Repeat step 2 a few times
    3) the hunt
    -Search for your exact truck
    Keep in mind when searching...
-Carfaxs have flaws and may not show everything
-buying private will save you $$ dealer will cost you $$
    - pay attention to the maintenance
    Records(timing belt,water pump,thermostat are key for the 3.4)
    - look for 1st owners
    -patience
    4) The Deal
-once you find "the one" jump on it quick! (They go fast)
-use all the skills you've developed
    - take it to a third party just to ease your mind and confirm what your buying and what repairs need to be done.

It is a pretty lengthy process but the more you know the more you can save.

Ive been using this general idea for a few different car purchases and I've always saved me a ton.

    Good luck

    Pretty much stock right now
That's a funky listing for a pre 2001 truck. Too many inconsistencies for a "1 owner" truck. By the front end and missing fender flares, looks like a 2000. Plus the TRD decal. It may be ok, but for my money, or yours, I'd be wary.

Run the VIN if serious about it before any money changes hands.
