It's rubber compound and tread design in the tires more than anything. UHP tires have a warm weather compound that turns to stone when it's cold out. Plus they're not heavily siped, which doesn't help. Add to that the fact that they're wide, and on high-powered low weight cars and you've got a recipe for donuts and wrecks.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
They do the drive slowly with the hazards on all the the time whenever there is a heavy rain in PA. It's funny because I go flying by them all and I'm sure they are thinking I'm an asshole but seriously I'm passing them with my camper on the back and wondering what the hell is their problem It's not bad at all, it's just some rain! Lol

And people wonder why I take the evo off the road and put it on cheap rollers. Anything under 50F and I can pretty much drive sideways down the length of my street without trying.

You're totally correct. No excuses, no regrets! I'll move it in the morning when he clears the lot haha. Not that anyone would notice.

Same thing used to happen all the time in Vegas. Whenever it rained, no matter how light or hard, people would literally pull over to the side of the road to stop. I was always that asshole just cooking along with no problem whatsoever.

When I lived in Pittsburgh for college I would tell people in MA about tunnel traffic in that city and no believed me. People in Pittsburgh have to slow down to like 10 mph for whatever reason when they drive through a straight tunnel. It was so infuriating. So much unneeded backup on highways getting in or out of the city

    Morning, everybody.

The GF's Mustang has a 'winter driving' setting that works wonders for her with what it's got to work with. Basically it pumps up the traction control and kills the throttle response, but it does make a hell of a difference. But, she still takes the Rav4 when it's snowing, because even with the crazy tech in the car to help keep it under control, it's still a sports car in the snow. :notsure:

Those 10mph saved all the lives. No one has died in a car in Pittsburgh since.

My no-longer-AWD Volvo has a "W" button which apparently stands for winter/wet. As far as I can tell, it just makes it start in 2nd gear all the time.

EDIT, just googled it. Apparently it starts it in 3rd gear.

    Almost certainly.

Fortunately, I'm not planning on tearing the plow truck apart until probably April or May, so they've got plenty of time to get that bell housing to me. :notsure:

Hers still starts out in first, but as soon as it detects even a hint of wheelspin it cuts the throttle back and works the ABS to shift what power is left from wheel to wheel to find traction. Works really well to keep the tail in line, while still letting her accelerate. I'm actually pretty impressed with Ford's traction control programming system; it's much better designed than the Toyota system (or at least the system that my '10 had). And it doesn't beep at you when it engages, which is really nice. It just flashes an icon on the dash.

Basically in Pittsburgh there is virtually no way to get into or out of the city without going over at least 4 bridges and through 2 tunnels. A 15 mile drive can take you an hour and a half at 10AM on a Tuesday. It blows.

I'm not up on my geography skills for all towns in Maine so I looked on Google Maps. That is the most ass-backwards delivery I've ever seen. It will probably ended up in Nova Scotia next

I don't think my Volvo has any sort of traction control. At least the little bit I've driven it, it didn't seem to care if I spun the front tires like crazy. A little odd for an '06.

My Tacoma doesn't beep at me if it's just regulating throttle/shifting power around. It does if it starts to slide or kick the back end out, though.

I feel like mine is better in the snow with the traction control completely off.

Might be a 'just-in-time' delivery from the looks of it!

I actually like the Ferd in the snow. It has traction control and advance traction control. If you push the traction control button once, it disables traction control. Traction control only kicks on under 15 MPH so I usually disable that in the snow since it is too aggressive for my liking. That leaves the advance traction control on which kicks in at speed and actually does help keep the truck in line to some extent.

Have you had any recalls, or major repairs? Sounds like you are pretty happy with the Ferd overall.

I tap the button once for auto LSD and removing throttle regulation. That seems to work best for me.

Mine has the same setup. There's also some sort of combination of "sport" mode on the transmission and traction control that gives you essentially a "sport plus" mode, but I haven't played around with it to really find out how to work it or what it does yet.

So far, knock on wood, I haven't had to do anything but change the oil, filter and brakes. I'm at 80k miles and it's running strong and mostly stock. I've swapped out some OEM parts for those from a different trim package but that's it.
I put a tune on mine to do generally what your sport mode does. From my understanding, it reduces the torque management intervention, firms up the shifts a bit and lets it rev a little higher between shifts.

If I've got it matted mine will already let it run right up to the redline before she'll shift. Lots of fun, when you're doing that interstate merge. :D :burnrubber:
