Four wheel drive will not engage light just flashes brought it to the dealership they called a specialist in from Toyota they say they going to replace the transfer case not much more information than that the dealership isn't very communicative.
1st question is anybody else have this problem
2nd question I'm in California California law says any parts they replace I am entitled to the old part does this hold true for warranties reason being after my warranty is up I plan on doing all the maintenance. I want to investigate what is wrong with the old one
3rd can I trust a Toyota dealership do they even know what they're doing I have trust issues with mechanics
PS I'll keep an update of how it turned out I live in Southern California

Not engaging or not dis-engaging has happened to many people. Has your specific dealership had those instances? No one knows. But Toyota corporate definitely knows about the issue.

Good luck getting the old part back since your nithor paying for thr part or the service. I'm with you on trusting service but they are swapping a major part. Their not tearing out the part and disecting it and then repair and reassembling it. I get the feeling that Toyota wants major warrenty repairs under their control.

I don't think keeping the old transfer case will do anything for you. Don't be a pack rat.

Maybe the problem is that you got a Chinese knock off of the Tacoma, the Tocoma?

    As per your 'under-avatar' profile.

you absolutely will NOT get the part back under warranty. Dealers keep them at the dealership until either warranty wants the part back, or they close out the invoice and pay the dealership.

He's one letter away from "Bro"coma... fwiw!

I doubt you'll get the old T-case back.... It's not a major deal to pull the transfer case and replace it. I bet it takes them 2 hrs and a good tech meybe less. I'd be happy letting the dealer do it .... don't sweat the little stuff, I'd be glad they are replacing and not fixing....

No dealer anywhere will give you the part they're replacing under warranty. You're only entitled to the old parts if you are paying to have it replaced

If anybody would be getting the old parts. It would be Toyota. As they are the ones paying for the repair.

And they'll send them to their supplier for THEIR warranty claim, supplier will rework and it'll be for sale as a reman a few months later. *sings Circle of Life*
