I'll get some more pictures when I put the new switch on this weekend. I got the led strips from superbrightleds.com. They're the 48" led strips I believe, but they can be cut down. For power i just ran a fused wire from my aux fuse box down the frame rail. I've been toying with the idea of putting another fuse box in the bed for accessories in the back though. That way I can run one big wire instead of a bunch of smaller wires. Then I just zip tied the wires to the frame leaving enough slack so the topper will still fold down.

Hahaha ^^^ that's actually a pretty good low buck solution. I'm definitely gonna run something similar to what AMOCAT is running

I have it wired so its hot all the time. Don't want to have to turn the key on every time I want to turn the lights on while camping or grabbing gear.

    Hey guys,

anyone got pictures of a 3rd gen running a 2nd gen softopper? Would like to see if the height discrepancy is something I can deal with.

Its just a 1000 lbs tie down strap tied off to bed cleat with a lock around the spoke.

You may want to find another way to secure the spare because @SMKYTXN originally had something similar and the weight of the tire pulling on the bedrail while wheeling caused his bedside to crack. That was the catalyst for his flatbed build.
    Just a suggestion.

Any of you guys sleeping in your bed with your softopper for camping? just wondering if it is feasible/comfortable with a sleeping pad/mattress.

all the time! Way better than setting up a tent and you're off the ground. I have the Toyota bed mat that already helps with softness and rigidity, then use a blow up sleeping pad. If it's cold I layer under the pad with blankets just for a little more barrier between the truck bed surface.

Quoting my prior post #1900 a few pages back. I was perfectly happy in mine last month! I may rig up some sort of sunshade or drapes on the windows, sunlight burning your retinas at 0600 sucks. #1stworldproblems

    Hey ccallen,

Are you using a 3rd gen softopper or a 2nd gen? I've got a line on a 2nd gen from craigslist just trying to see what It will look like height-wise vs the cab

I don't see why there would be any height disparity between 2nd / 3rd gen. I think from reading the thread over, that the only difference is the curvature of the tailgate area / mounts, which is probably negligible.

The bed height is 1" higher on the 3rd generation. Softopper says the 3rd generation Softopper is unique to the one shared with all midsizes prior to 2015 (Nissan Frontier, 2nd Gen Tacoma, etc..) as the height of the topper had to be reduced in order to keep it in line with the cab, and the rear panel size is different to accommodate the thicker tailgate.

3rd gen sides sit 1" taller than 2nd gen.

Huh, I'll be damned. Did not know that. In use, the bed looks and feels exactly the same as my 2nd gen. Good to know.
