Not true. The e-locker was a $600 add on option you could get with out the TRD package. It just came standard with the TRD package. When I was active on the TTORA boards this was discussed. It had to be special ordered this way.

I didn't know this. Makes sense though. So the TRD package was the only package to feature the locker, BUT Mr. T would let you special order it to come on any 6 lugger? And only a 600 buck option? Everyone should have requested this option! Obviously 99% of the population wouldn't know better.

Well, not any 6 lug.... it was not available on 4 cylinder. Had to be a V6 6 lug.

Check out this brochure, down at the additional options it's about half way down. http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/Toyota/Tacoma/Toyota_US Tacoma_2002.pdf

Well, yeah, you can special order pretty much anything (which is why I said *almost certainly*).

Special orders are relatively rare. The dealers will charge you full price for the privilege, and then you wait several months. Or you could make a deal on that TRD sitting on the lot and walk out today with a locker.

I mean, TRD lockers are nice, but not that nice.

I guess for me, it was more of the data point that a taco could be out there that would have the locking rear without the TRD package. I would've looked at it and gone 'Huh???, what do you mean it came with a locker?'. Would be a bit of a red flag for me, had I not known it was a possible option. Nahmean?

oh for sure. Just about anything is possible with a special order.

Back when I had my 22RTE 4Runner, I found out that right after Toyota came out with the V6, you could still get the turbo as a special order option for a couple years. It's exceptionally rare because it's not like it was advertised heavily, you kinda had to be "in the know" to know you could special order it. I'm sure there's a few of them out there, but I doubt any of them are still original.

Heck, even my 22RTE 4Runner (with embroidered "Turbo" on the seats) had an aftermarket turbo because the oem one got, um, "a little hot" once... :)

Wow, didn't know that either... If I happened upon one, that would be very hard to turn down. That would be very cool.

Lol, no way man. Toyota is life. Think of where the world would be had Mr. Toyoda not made the switch to automobiles from sewing machines! Life as we know it would not exist. Lol
