Since you don't need to know Morse Code any longer to get the License, my buddy says just read up a little and take the exam. His wife took it and passed. She didn't know shit about radios. So, bottom line, it's supposed to be pretty easy.

 

So easy a caveman could do it....

I toned it down pretty considerably for the expo writeup, but I can't stress how much of a lifesaver @jAndyMendo and his chainsaw were. I knew some of the trails hadn't been hit in a while so there could've been downed trees (I think an adv bike group went a couple weeks before we did and hit downed trees in the forest). Andy also didn't know whether he could come until pretty much the last week. If he hadn't come along our gas considerations would've pretty much gone out the window because we would've needed to double back significantly back to town to refuel. We hit about 4-5 trees this trip, 3 required the chainsaw, and a couple we moved by hand or with the help of a winch.

 

And this is why you guys are vets... Good stuff! I assume a chainsaw will be geared up for your next epic adventure..

 

I have a nice scabbard mount in my bed rail for my husky, and travels with me a lot more than I need it (that is the point).

We also needed straps, winch, snatch blocks for some of the tree removal, so a chainsaw is just a piece to the prepared puzzle.

 

@jAndyMendo how do you like the husky? My dad has been looking for a new one to replace his older model stihl.

 

Yep. Also wanted to mention handsaws, axes, etc. to remove the smaller limbs so the trunk is easier to move/winch.

 

Reminds me, I also need to research my chainsaw mount.

 

It works. I want to move to a pro stihl that takes a 25 inch bar (want to help with trail clearing for the big trails). Will see if I do it.

What about Jeeps? You guys like Jeeps? No rules about Jeeps.

So I've wheeled all the trails mentioned here so far but I've never heard of Hell Hole? I googled it and it looks likes its in a similar area as the Rubicon? Would you put it on the same difficulty level as the Rubicon or more like the Dusy or Niagra or Deer Valley or Slick Rock or...?

And what's a ham radio? is for bacon?

 

Hell Hole is more like deer valley or slick rock

 

Except that its a dead-end. It drops down to the shoreline of the lake, which means its
more difficult to return back to the trail-head. No by-passes that I can remember.
