    It got the job done @ Harlan in October and Dirt Devil in November and Hoosier Natl. Forrest in December and then there was Badlands in August....

    You get the point. Decent little radio, just not a lot of RF gain.....You'll hear fine, but anyone at a great distance from you won't get high modulation from you.

    Most "out of the box" low end radio's suffer from cheap mic syndrome. I'm a big fan of Astatic noise reduction mic's. Around $35 for a really good one. Just like anything these days.....The initial purchase is just the first step. Then it's accessorize!

    Pilot or Lowes (NOT the lumber people that is linked) truck stops will have 'em in their display case for around $45. There's an Ultra IV version out now. Essentially the same radio, just different display and knobs....

    I've got one in my garage, hooked up to a car battery and a magnetic mount antenna stuck to the window frame. I use it as sort of a base station to test mine with.

    They'll have 'em too. If you go in one, look to see if they carry an Astatic mic that is red in color. Only one model in red and I'm hunting for one.
