    you could always use the tube as the skeleton and or have a hybrid...

    haha I meant make a tube bumper and then weld plate to the tube... its a lot easier than getting all you angles right with the plate, since you can flat weld basically everything (the easiest of welds) and not have to worry about asymmetry from well basically everything going wrong if you aren't using a jig or something

    That would work, from the standpoint of the mounting area. I could see using that method, however, I'm wanting to do potentially a drastically different design...

    have you considered c channel? u can notch the legs out then just bend em together and weld the seems to save some time and also I feel like its stronger since its all 1 piece of metal
