Just made a deal to trade my 16 auto for a 17 manual.

If you guys have a chance please take a 3 to 5 min video of your instrument cluster with the cruise set at 75. I would like to see how your truck acts compared to mine in regards to down shifting and up shifting. Thanks.

 

...^^^... They would probably have to drive your exact same route to have a good frame of reference.

Slight hills can make a big difference in 5th and especially 6th at 75 MPH.

 

Thats why I asked all 3 of them as well as another guy in this thread. I understand these are not apples to apples comparisons but I would just like to see the characteristics of their truck.

 

...^^^... The gear hunting can make you crazy and sometimes I lock it in 5th.

I tried and I can't find anyway to position and mount my phone so that it captures both the dash and the road.

 

I was on the turnpike today and remembered you requesting a video. I had the cruise set at 70 instead of 75. I also just kind of wanted to learn how to edit and post video . Sorry, its pretty unsteady in spots.

Thanks for the video! I really don't have too many issues at 70 and under. 75 and above is where mine really starts acting up.

Plus you paid 1500 and fees my guess 300 to 500.

So lets say you gave 4000k more to go from auto to manual.

You did however gain a year which is worth what, maybe $600.

So you gave around $3500

In my mind this makes sense, sorry if the math is confusing.

In your last 2 post in 2 different threads you seem pretty concerned about how someone you don't know decides to spend their money. Is everything ok, Rob? Do you have anything better to do?

 

Driven my dad's '16 SR5 DCSB AT 4X4 on a coupla long trips. Very nice truck but AT slightly annoying. I just bought a '17 TRDSport AC MT 4X4. I have to say I love, love, love the MT

 

Believe me I would not be doing this if I wasn't so unhappy with the transmission in my current truck. I actually was prepared to take more of a hit.

 

Will take a video at 75 if I think about it next time I'm on the TP or interstate. 95% of my driving is city. If I drove a lot on the interstate I would probably get a full size truck.

 

I drove the 3rd gen Tacoma 6 speed. And compaired to the 2nd gen 6 speed it's nothing a like. If u are just cruising in 1st at 5 mph and punch it in a 2nd gen it will snap your neck and break the tires loose. If you do it in a 3rd gen it falls on its face and doesn't no what to do. Prius will accelerate faster. Just my opinion.

 

I know what you're saying. Ive had a 2ND gen and it had a much broader powerband. If you think a 3rd gen manual is bad then you should try an auto.

 

I have tried both. I work for Toyota and pdi a lot of the new tacomas coming in. I honestly feel like an auto is faster with the v6.

 

I don't really care about being "faster". My whole reason for going to a manual is being able to chose what gear I'm in since the auto in this truck can't make up its mind.
