Didn't read the 58+ other post but, IMO, if you're looking as to how others have "convinced" themselves to purchase a 3rd gen am I correct in assuming you've already decided a new Tacoma is not for you?

If you've not reached that conclusion yet, I recommend you run away from even thinking of spending your money on one.

Not sure I want to be in this thread but here goes...
I had my 2007 Tacoma SR5 crew cab 4x4 for just over 100k miles and I did really like it. I got a little discouraged with it as it aged due to some flaws I felt were in the trucks design. I swapped the suspension out because the stock leafs were junk, then it was chasing minor issues, blower motor, bushings, carrier bearing... It started nickel and dimming me a bit. The engine and transmission on the Tacoma would have run forever but I was losing faith in the bits around those components.

Then, I got the itch for something new or different and sort of wanted a full size due to a growing family and I had them before and liked them. Honestly, when it comes to full size trucks, I've always favored GM but stopped and test drove an F150 on a whim and was really impressed. The size difference from the Tacoma to the crew cab F150 is huge. 2 car seats in the back of the Tacoma fit fine but you weren't getting anyone else back there. With the he Ford, I can have an adult sit comfortably between the 2 car seats (or enough room on the seats for a few bags because I usually have a large dog that takes up the floor of the back seat). The F150 gets damn near the same fuel economy as the Tacoma, which is impressive in my opinion (I have the 5.0 V8), and has plenty of power for your inner kid. I've never taken the f150 off road but if you like tight trails, this isn't the truck for you. If your trails are more open, it's a capable truck, it just has a terrible turning radius, is wide and is a bit of a chin dragger (poor approach angle). If you like tweaking and customizing, there is a lot more support for the Tacomas than the F150 I've found, and generally you can find take off and aftermarket parts a lot cheaper on forums and retailers. For example, I bought a new, painted grille for my Tacoma for $175 from a dealer, for my F150, I'd be looking at around $5-600. Suspension and armor are the same way, products for the bigger truck just cost more. Not a deal breaker for me but could be for some.

If I had to buy another truck today, I'd get another F150. It's been reliable for me and has cost me less money to maintain than my Tacoma did. Both are good trucks, both have their strong suits and weaknesses. Good luck with your decision.

I resemble this remark. Bought this truck after 20 years of Z-71s. After seeing the prices/ stupid bundling of options on the new Z-71s, I went back to the Toyota. No regrets. Love my truck.

He says that but then talks about checking into the new ranger and also talks about lifting his truck and doing mods on it once his extended warrant is over. Seems he has a hard time keeping up with what he says.

Its one thing for autonews to make an article, but when push comes to shove they arent the ones writing the checks. The dealerships now are not as desperate as they were to sell the F150 from last year. The used prices by dealer have risen and you can get left over ones for the used prices. Only the XLT Sports are keeping some value, the regular XLT and XL's are worthless.

One way I was able to convince myself to by the Tacoma instead of getting another F50 was simply the value. Go on autotrader, find a 16' F150 crew cab XLT sport 4x4 with say 5k miles. Run the Vin on KBB instant buy. you can do this even if you dont own the truck and it will give you an instand buy price that every dealership will honor. Do the same with a 16 TRD DC Tacoma 4x4. The Taco will be worth more. I tried it 4 different times. Make it with the same options.

Its to each their own. I am short, so there is plenty of room in the back, even when we have kids, in the taco. The F150 was just way too big for me. Ya room is great, but I live in the suburbs and Pittsburgh has a lot of little narrow roads, tight spaces, ect. The F150 did fine, but I hated tight parking lots. One thing you cannot deny is the 2.7 eco and its mpg. I got 26mpg on the turnpike going to Philly and 25 on the way back. Pretty good I would say. The power seats are nice, but once they are set, then you will never use them again. I touched them once and that was it.

OP its up to you and what is important. If its reliability, then its a wash I would say. If its resale, then the Taco. If its room, its the F150, if its MPG its a wash and the F150 may get slightly better. However, you need to run higher octane to keep the turbo happy. It doesnt like 87. 89+ is a must. visability is a wash, the Taco has a ton of blind spots, but the F150 is big and has them too. Towing, F150, if you have the tow package, otherwise, its wash. Looks, the Taco is cooler. So you will be happy with either, but you will pay a bit more for the F150.

I just sold my F250 Super Duty and ordered a 2017 Sport.. Just did not need a 3/4 ton diesel any longer but still want a truck... Thought of the F150 for a sec but really did not want another full size..

Now, if I was going the 1/2 ton route... I would really take a look at the new Titan....

I am well aware of the Suburbs of the Burgh, I could see where a Full Size Truck could be a Pain in the Ass there.

The f150 has terrible resale value. After $13,000 off sticker a 3 year old truck loses another $16,000 in value. I purchased my Taco in June, the day before I could have picked up a 2014 Platinum with 38,000 miles that had an msrp of just under $62,000 for $30,500. The guy paid $49,000 for it new.

If I absolutely wanted an auto transmission, Id get the F150. It is hands down one of my favorite truck, v6 ecoboost is superb, ride is quiet and planted, and overall a good truck for truck purposes (reliability may still not be on par but I have no direct data other than the 6 months I used one).

But since Im a diehard manual driver, its the tacoma. Or in your case OP, maybe take a hard look at the GM twins and dare I say it, the Honda.

Looking at what they transact at I don't think it's bad for a domestic truck with a lot of programs out on it. 38k miles is probably a little on the high end for when you were looking. At that point you're out if warranty so the resale drops a little more suddenly

One of my Bro's just got a 17' F-150 Crewcab 4x4 XLT 2.7L Ecoboost with rear locker for 35k. Really nice truck, but I already have a fullsize. Only weighs 500lbs more than my 2.7 Taco Access cab, and has tons of power.

You can't really do fun things to an F-150. Tons of aftermarket Shenanigans for the Tacoma.

I'd recommend spending some time in the f150 before buying. I just borrowed my dads 2015 lariat 3.5 eb fx4 with every option while my 07 dcsb 4x4 was getting a wheel bearing replaced. My commute is 120 miles and I thought the ford would make it much more comfortable but to my surprise, I did t care for it. While it was smooth and quiet, it felt disconnected from the road and is huge in comparison. It was also like piloting the space shuttle with all the buttons and gadgets. The other odd thing was the brakes, I'm not sure if they weak or if the truck is heavy but stopping wasn't all that great.

Was happy to get my Tacoma back.

I have both a 2013 tacoma trd and a 2013 ford f150 super cab with the 302 package, ive logged 150,000 miles on the f 150 without an issue, gobs of in the cab room, loads of torque and power and did i mention it gets just as good gas mileage as the tacoma, but when i get home i cant wait to change out to the tacoma, driving that long ass f 150 is like driving a bus

I drive F150s frequently and I have two notes. One the cabs are huge compared to the Tacoma. Which I did like. Two they are a PITA to park compared to a Tacoma, so if you live in an urban area that sucks.

People are saying that you can have adult and two kid seat in rear in f150

How does f150 rear seat width compare to tundras ?
