Toyota Motor Corp (TM 77.05, +1.05, +1.38%) trying to overcome bad press from recent recalls, is considering offering cash discounts and longer warranties to lure buyers in the U.S., Bloomberg News reports Friday, citing dealer executives. The 10-year extended warranty and discounts of thousands of dollars per vehicle would start in March, according to the executives cited in the report. A Toyota spokesman declined to comment to Bloomberg.

So much for high resale value...

I'd be willing to bet this is a short-term downfall. Toyota has been considered one of the best for about 30 years. One mishap won't override that.

    Americans forget fast, real fast.

Was planning on going to get one this week, but I can wait a couple weeks and see how this unfolds. I figured something like this would be coming, the dealership is absolutely empty.

i'm planning on driving my tacoma until it dies, so whether the resale value is high or low doesn't affect me in the least...

As long as the recalls/tsbs aren't too crazy i see the tacoma holding its value better than the other toyotas. Dealers have enough of a problem stocking them now, if they're discounted even a little they'll be on even shorter supply. That itself will keep our values/used tacoma prices up. Doesnt bother me much either way as my plan was to drive my taco to the ground.

Damn straight! A year from now if you mention bad press about Toyota people will look at you with a blank stare and have no clue what you are talking about.

They are great trucks...no way to hide that shining through.

I'm with this guy...so I can careless about the resale value...and when it's time...I'll buy another Toyota. It beats getting another maker that has a history of recalls and poor cars.

X2, Ive been thinking along these lines since all this started. Hopefully they will increase the "weak" 3 year 36000 mile warranty on new cars and trucks and extend the existing warranty on models still under warranty. Probably just a pipe dream but you never know.

How the Taco keeps missing out on these recalls is amazing.

Meh, who sells a Taco anyway.

And our resale will still be better than all the competition.

I think the Tacoma will retain it's value. Just did quick research and found 5 used trucks like mine within 200 miles of where I live. One was a 2010 the other 4 were 09 most had 12K-15K miles and all were more than what I paid for my 2010 TRD Sport brand new with 9 miles on it.
Seems like they are still holding value.

I am not the least bit worried about the resale value of my 2010 4x4. I don't ever plan on selling it. :D

I have owned Toyota trucks since 1989. Still the best truck in the world IMHO.

On the other hand if it was a 2010 GMC Canyon or Chevy Colorado or worse yet a Dodge Dakota?? I would be very concerned. :D

If you had a GM or Dodge vehicle, you wouldn't have any resale to lose in the first place. Those two depreciate faster than almost every other brand.

I remember reading a while back that Rams retain something like 26% of their value after 2 years? That's fucking horrifying.

It's like home values, as long as your not selling right now you will be fine. With everyone jumping ship it's only a matter of time for the other guys problems to come out. I will take my chances with Toyota.

Believe me, plenty of other vehicles have far worse issues that never get recalled. Ford is a big one. Toyota just got pressured into this one.

This is the first time Toyota has had a failure on something, give them a break. I'm glad I don't own a Ford. My dad has a 08 F250 FX4 Diesel 6.4L and it's always in the shop every other day! ugh that things a POS.
