Newbie Tacoma Owner - Reviews regarding WeatherTech Side Window Visors for Gen 3 Tacos ?

Ok, finally bought my first Tacoma (2017) after 20 years of owning 2 Ford Ranger pick-ups (1998 & 2007) . . . . Just had 5" Chrome Tubes, Mudguards, & Chrome Exh Tip added by dealer today.

My question being - Who has "installed" feedback on the WeatherTech Side Window Visors on their 16-17 Tacoma ?

Reviewing Google search, it seems like Rav4 & other Toyo owners have initial install problems with WT Visors and with their Auto Up/Down power windows not working correctly . . . ?

Most posts/reviews on other sites seem to point to (im)proper installation and/or waiting 24-48 hours before operating the windows . . . I'm ok with either as long as I can successfully install the "In Channel" visors . . .. .

Not really sure I want to add the AVS visors (exterior sill tape) . . . just hate the rain pouring in an open window on my 3 day old truck ! ! !

Any help is appreciated !

 

I used the AVS in-channel, and I've had no issues with them. I used to be a dealer tech and we always used AVS. I bought mine from Amazon:

Like window tint is the go-to in Arizona ... Vent visors are a staple here in Western Washington. I have the set listed above ... you cant go wrong with those.

 

Thanks guys. The AVS I saw at the dealership yesterday were the exterior tape ones. Amazon reviews look very positive for the AVS in-channel, and they are half the price of the WeatherTech . . .

 

i got both the regular in channel and low profile in channel visors from avs. i like them but wish i had modified them slightly before installing. i would have tried to thin the front corners because the glass scratching sound wasnt pleasant at first. also think i couldve done a bit better with the rough bottom edge, taking it down a hair and heating it up so air moves better. all in all not a horrible product, does the job. wouldve prefered a higher quality option but a year ago there wasnt one

havent ever seen a weathertech visor tbh. i sell parts and we carry avs. sell a ton of em and it isnt a bad product. they are cheap. both price and quality. if weathertech ones were available i wouldve given em a shot. and i think i could easily modify an avs visor to my likeings had i known what i didnt like about them before install but they are not easily removable

 

I have weathertech on my 2016 , they were installed by local truck shop been on about a month, I like them and no problems yet, was a hundred and something for the four.

 

Still like the WT visors after another month or so? I am debating between WT and AVS.

 

I installed weathertechs on my 2017 last weekend. Great, no issues

 

What is the actual point of these?
I know they are a cool accessory on JDM cars, but is there really a function?

 

I installed the front visors and was not happy with the passenger side not working right. 24 hours later it still acted funny. But today it worked fine. I don't know. I do know their customer service is great and they shipped out a set of rears because one of the first set had a broken corner. They showed up today.
Have not tried to install them yet.

 

They work perfect to display that you are over 50.

They are supposed to cut down on the wind, and rain that would blow into the window if it were down, and I think cut down on wind noise. Googled and it also says helps with aerodynamics

 

I like them because I can open my windows in the rain and let in fresh air, without water running into the truck. Especially useful if you're parked in the rain. Easy way to keep the windows from fogging up

 

I notice on my 2017 Taco (purchased one month ago now), that water tends to trickle in a cracked open window . . . if I am reading above posts correctly, it sounds that the WeatherTech in-channel visors (@$100/4) are the better choice over the AVS in-channel visors (@ $60/4).

 

In Florida they work wonders in the summer. I put up the windshield visor/reflector and crack the windows. Keeps the inside of the car from hitting extreme temps.

 

I plan on getting a set of the Weathertechs for my 2016 very soon. I had them on my 2011 Tacoma double cab as well as on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Worked very well and I had zero problems with them.

 

AVS low pro in channel are great. Get the exterior taped visors to ecentuate your chrome tube steps and bull bar if you want to look like you're over 50.

 

just put in the AVS in channel in my 17 AC . No problem, good price, and half the price on Amazon of weatherteck. Amazon doesn't have the 3rd generation listed yet. I've also used weatherteck. I think both are the same in quality.

 

Yes, I am over 50 (not by much), but I don't care what age you are - I'm willing to bet no one likes rain water coming in a cracked open window on a brand new truck . . . .

MSCOFF & all - Thank You for your input. From everything I've read on this forum (and Amazon, etc), it sounds like I should wait install until the outside temps get above 55 degrees or so (spring season) for either brand.
