My dealer flashed mine no problem
Then I installed the URD fuel pump & stealth 2.85, as well as afe cold air... runs fantastic!

 

i'm having no problems with the BD tune... but i'm all stock. i have no gauges but i feel like it's running real lean. i was thinking the smaller pulley and BD tune may work similar to the Toyota SC tune with the 2.85.

 

From what I was told by gadget at URD the trd flash works great with the 2.85 pulley AS LONG AS you replace the fuel pump...
running lean is a quick way to pop your motor.
As far as the bully dog I don't have a clue LOL

So, URD sells a tune that works with the Magnuson and 2.85 pulley?!

 

No you can just use the TRD tune, but highly recommended that you change out the fuel pump to a high flow. Gotta maintain fuel pressure under boost.
The stock pump struggles and often times has a clogged filter. No big deal until you add forced induction.
If your fuel pressure drops under boost, motor can go lean and easily come apart.
It's cheap insurance at under $200 for the pump kit.

 

I wish I had skipped the BD/Magnuson tune altogether so I can get some stealth pulley action.

Cool thanks. I knew he did ones etched with TRD, but never seen just the clear smoked.

 

The dealer should do the TRD flash no problem. Several people have done it that way.

Several of us who were having issues with Bully Dog also had dealers that were willing to do it, but due to our attempting to use the Bully Dog previously, the dealers were unable to do it.

 

Thanks for the information. I'll just go by my local dealer and see if they will install TRD tune before I mess with the BD tune.

 

Yep, I wouldn't even hook the Bully Dog up at all. That dog could potentially take a bite out of your sanity and your wallet like it has done to me and several others.

 

Wow! I can't believe they would even sell something like that! You would think they would have more tuning options

 

There are many guys who say they've had no issues at all and are totally happy. So keep that in mind.

My experience is just one data point. But I'm not the only one that's had issues. There are a several other members with similar issues. @tacomavoyager ended up with a cracked piston and a $6k repair bill. I can't say for certain it was due to the Bully Dog, but seeing how lean my truck was running I would not rule it out.

 

True, but I did get the smaller pulley and bigger fuel pump, too. From what I've been reading, the BD tune may be too lean for those extra mods?
It scares me to think i could go through the same issues other have. Best case would be to have a custom tune made specific to the truck. We shall see....

 

Adding the pulley doesnt justify the bd tune not being correct. They provide a tune specifically for the smaller pulley lol

 

Is there only one tune on the BD or a couple to choose from?
