I finally wore out my tires at 50,000 miles (i did not feel safe on them) and put new shoes on. If it was a male Tacoma putting 265/70/16 in the place of 245/75/16 would have made it get worse gas milage. But now I have increased my mileage by 1.5 miles per gallon. And I don't know how the larger tires are factored in ,because I am going further (more miles). First off I am a stickler on keeping track of my gas milage on my work truck. I use fuel buddy app on my phone. Now why I think it's a female. Buy her new shoes and she gets you real happy with her. Just don't tell her they are cheap ones I only paid $460 for all 4 and mounted and balanced.

    Cheaper lighter weight tires perhaps

Also the change in size between those two is negligible

I don't think it's the because of the weight I haul daily the other tires were handbook tires and you could notice a big difference in the weight between those and the new tires. I asked the tech that was mounting them to let me feel the difference. A good 10 lb difference easy.

I could never hold 5th gear without it always shifting down. Now it's holding and shifting into 6th more often. Something is just not adding up. Maybe a harder compound being a lt tire.

Given the amount of miles you drive, check out something like a Michelin XPS traction or if you don't need traction a Michelin XPS Rib. You will get an insane number of miles out of them which balances against their higher costs. Or at the very least BFGs. I have never had any luck getting more than 40k off cheap tires before the tread is crap, but good ones I was getting 60-80k. I am looking to get some 235 85 R16 Michelin XPS fractions once I find enough sparie style steel wheels.

hmm don't know what to say.

I mean its barely 3rpms difference between the sizes and only about .09 to .29 mph difference range on the speedometer. so either she lost some weight and is hiding it (or someone stole something and you didn't notice off the back)

    :)

10 lbs on a tire is a YYUUUGGGEEE difference. its not about the straight up weight difference too as compared to putting that 40 lbs in the bed.

its about the rolling resistance of the wheel and the inertia of the weight. so thats most likely why

Did they run out of paint or something? Or is that how the fronts of the bases look?

I even have not got a good base line on what it's going to get in milage yet because I had over 600 lbs in the truck on the way home from Phoenix. And there was no tail wind I know that's going to be asked. I definitely drives different and that's all I did is swap tires out go figure.

Just to verify, the new tires are heavier, correct?

Heavier tires will always have a negative impact on mileage. Force = Mass X Acceleration...... you added more mass, you'll apply more force to get the truck going.

Yes tires are heavier so I was expecting to loose mpg's. But I was going to swap the tires and wheels with my TRD off road. And the wear out those tires. Well now ithink they are staying on for a while and see how they wear being a cheep tire. I may swap them and try how they off road.

One contributing factor, Larger tire Same final drive.

Larger tire=less power but better fuel economy. For FLAT driving. Drive across the mountains and that probably won't be the case.

The truck looks nice and drives down hills good. Regardless of tire and wheel size. Transmission is what is killing the gas.
