Installed 4.88 Gears in my 2016

For me it was Totally worth it. I f-ing hated this truck before gears. I'm still trying to trade it.

 

Not sure how you got 10k for engine oil when it clearly said gears.

 

Lol, how many miles was you truck at when you did the gears?

We're in a gear thread. That should be context enough, especially when engine oil has no bearing and is a separate system than the rear diff and its components. Also, context clues would allude no one would change their engine oil at 500 miles, anyway.

 

I change mine at 1000 .. lol

Tell that to the dude who put 35's on stock suspension. Just takes a lot of cutting and banging.

 

We regear 5-6 vehicles a week, and always change the break-in oil @ 500 miles.

There's often a decent amount of break-in material in the oil, and it's good to get that out of the diff.

 

Exactly, even when activated it's a reactionary system that only kicks in once a slip is detected. Mechanical systems are always working and always feeding power to the wheels in need and work at all speeds. This is why I'm a big fan of subaru's AWD, still one of the few companies that use an honest mechanical system rather than a FWD until a slip is detected eco-versions in almost every other manufactures.

What do you guys think about throwing on the bigger tires and doing the regear right away? I'm hearing some people say wait until you break it in before throwing on the bigger tires etc. Was planning to do it right off the lot basically... Maybe even with less than 100 miles on some 33s and 4.88 gears.

 

I'm honestly thinking of doing the same. Why wait?

Nope, hardly any. And if you aren't off roading there basically is no rub at all. Ask @Bray1197 - but only if you're talking about the pro which is lifted higher and has the wheels further out on each side.
