Anyone got this set-up? I got a good line on a craigslist softopper, but I am worried about the difference in bed wall height.

    Regards,

    JK

Search. I've seen discussion of it here in the past couple months.

I believe the softopper sits up an inch higher than the roof. May or may not be a big deal depending on your needs.

It doesn't fit as it should and looks a little crappy, IMO. Big gap between cab and top. There are pics around here somewhere.

I tried it... See pic. I opted to sell the 2nd gen and get a new 3rd gen softopper...

    2G topper cab

    2G topper tail

I also talked to the guys at Softopper and they assured me the 3rd gen version had all new dimensions for the frame and panels. Also the back flap support bar is curved to align with the tailgate.

Sorry I don't have a pic of the new 3rd gen topper on but it fits proper. Will update if I install it anytime again soon...

Thankyou for the picture! Seems like that may be the only way to go.

I ran with it for a weekend...soccer tournament w/ driving wind and pouring rain.. and it worked OK.

But if your a Taco owner you're prob particular enough to want things fitted...

Interesting, I talked to Softopper and they said the rear door was the only change? I run mine and feel like it fits fine for $250. But thats just me. I'll order a new rear door at some point.

I'm happy with the way it fits, but I only paid $250. Cheersunnamed-2.jpg unnamed-2.jpg unnamed-2.jpg

You can see how the back door doesn't fit right, but for $80. you can get the updated door. Or so they told me.

I was in possession of both at the same time and took measurements of the frames and side panels of each. The 3rd gen softopper is in fact about 1.5" shorter and the side panels have a longer slope in the rear (lower angle). The rear window panel bar also connects to frame differently where the round bar of the 2nd gen snapped into round black clips on end of the bed runners...the 3rd gen bar has 3/8 inch flat plastic ends that slide into metal "U" slots and tethered snap closures. I preferred the 2nd gen window panel but they had to come up with something different to accommodate for the curved bar.

Is the bar actually curved? Mine is a straight bar that connects to the U shaped clips that screws into the bed runner.

    Hardcore off road floor mats!
The bar for the tailgate is curved.

Will a 3rd gen softopper fit a 2nd gen alright? A friend has a 2nd gen and wants a hard top, but doesn't have the time to get it installed before a trip. So she is thinking of getting a softopper and sell it to me afterwards. I abe a 3rd gen she a 2nd. Both long beds

You can call Soft Topper and ask. Their customer service is fantastic.
