I seriously considered trading my auto for a good ole 6-speed manual last fall.

But I've about decided as much as the auto shifts and annoys the crap outta me it does get pretty good fuel mileage.

Plus I fortunately have no other issues with this truck, and a 125,000 mile warranty.

You will not be disappointed. I love the 6 Speed Manual transmission in my 2017 TRD Sport.

It's been rough, calling Toyota to buy it back, I'll probably be upside down, when it's all said and done, :annoyed:

Keep in mind the computers will kill power to the engine if the rear wheels start to try and slip. I remebers some guys who just got their 2016's couldn't do donuts unless they disabled the track and anti slip functions. I would be interested to see how the power behaved with all these items turned off, which is easy to do.

But yes cruise sucks from my experience. Has to be perfectly flat and zero wind to keep it from the downshift dance.

You know. I kinda wish the traction controls were not turned on by default and was an option for the driver to engage, not disengage.

You have no idea what you're talking about. I've done side by side tests with my 3rd gen manual against 2nd gen 4.0 manual and auto. You obviously weren't driving them hard. You have to wring out the 3rd gen, as in punch it and don't let off. You're basing your opinion on the throttle sensitivity and that's it.

It will throw the rubber down. Spin in second and chirp 3rd. The wheel hop is insane.

One thing about the new 3.5 to consider is in cruise it is most likely in Atkinson mode, which is the no balls wimpy torque to save gas mode, this allows the truck to slow and not able to maintain speed, so it does and the cruise dumps it in to lower gear before it can ramp back in Otto mode. With all the transmission TSB's they are dicking around with Atkinson, Otto and shift point programming. The down side to the Otto and Atkinson mode, is the engines steady state power is weaker because it is running in the Atkinson mode, unlike the 4.0 which was always Otto.

I have the wimpy 2.7L SR5 4X4 and drove a co-workers V6 and yes more power, but it shifts all over the place like all of you have reported, compared to my 2.7 4 banger. The 4 bangers are also lower geared in the rear as well.

Did you see the video I posted above? Is that considered excessive shifting? Seriously curious.

I have a stalker! I guess it's time to go "underground". Your post is obviously looking for opinions I gave you mine. I WOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT DEAL! Anything better to do? Well I haven't had a truck payment in over six years. So there are a lot of things I can and do. Bottom line. You seem pretty concerned about my opinion to go full stalker mode. I must have hit pretty close to home.:poking:

Once again, thanks for your input. I'm very impressed your 11 year old truck was paid off 6 years ago. It sounds like you are great with your money. Would you mind looking over my 401k and give me some pointers?

Dealer just called to let me know my order was accepted. They are still saying it should be on their lot mid march. I can't wait!

If mine performed like that and the TSB did not fix the problem, I would sell it too.

Where I live, driving 75 to 79 is the norm. I usually set my cruise on 78 and it does the exact same thing as that guys video. This is also on very flat land. If you're driving into any wind good luck even seeing 5th gear.
