Bolt Size to Use with Puller, to Remove Crankshaft Timing Sprocket on 3.4L V6 5VZ-FE?

    Awesome man. Coming right along. And seeing that crank, no wonder it was a bear to get off! Yeah, good anti-seize wouldn't be bad idea to put on there when it goes back on.

    Yeah... How much did those set you back?

    The Haynes specified greasing the outer edge of the new seal, which went in suspiciously easily.

    It's a Japanese made seal: KP Gasket. I know, I know... Not OEM.

    Or just use some oil on the outer edge. Grease the inner edge before sliding it on to provide initial lubrication.

    Maybe go with Toyota seal (usually labeled NOK) this time just to be safe.

    Crank gear needed to be heated up a little with a torch to remove. Washers on puller bolts were bending without heat. Cleaned snout with emery cloth and replaced crank seal.

    I've had success on multiple timing belts as well, using the 'little encouragement with a torch' method.

    Reminds me of the puller I had to buy for my little Kawasaki Prairie 300 4x4 when I rebuilt it.

    Job is done, for now. Wish I'd have figured out what size bolts I needed before hand, to pull that danged pulley. I might have saved myself a bit of cheese. I really appreciate all of the help! :drunk:

    Old thread but I’m dealing with the same issue. What do you have in the middle of the crankshaft that the pointy end of your puller bolt is sitting in?
