How do you use that jack? It has a min height of 9 in and a max of 14.75 ? My truck has lift points at the cross braces of 19 in and 16 in. I guess you can put it under the rear end to lift. Under the LCA is a sloped suface and it dont look to safe to me. Or you can carry around cribbing blocks to place under the jack. I dont want to haul more than I have to just to lift a truck.

So what's the final concensus then? From reading this thread and others:
    1. Hi-Lift: Best for maximum height, can be dangerous, need sliders to lift the front end (or an attachment to lift the wheel and a jack)
    2. 3 Ton Floor Jack - Heavy, can be big which makes it awkward to store on the truck, best for road work and not as good for offroad
    3. Bottle Jack - Need to mount under LCA and rear Diff, can be put in stock jack storage location, cheap :)

    ???

I know I need something, lifted the truck yesterday and the 3ton jack broke before we got the tires on, was a pain in the ass to figure out how to get the truck up to get the tires on.

have you even TRIED before you knock it?

we use aluminum floor jacks on both the race trucks and chase trucks every time... if they can lift a long travel truck with 16" of travel in the front and up to 20" in rear, it's not all that stupid...

the floor jack is 25 pounds for the basic jack, and 35 pounds for the big jack so its comparable to the hi lift...

it's the jack model above this one... the one above is 17" lift but there is one more size up that is almost 19" lift...

although the 17" above is likely overkill on a tacoma...

the 91039 is only 14" but at 24 pounds, its convenient and it lifts my truck and Bajamoon's truck just fine...

this is the one the Engage truck has on the trailer... heavier at 45 pounds, but even my lazy ass managed to carry it...

Mike's jack is GREAT - I had the pleasure using it after kicking a microwave oven sized rock with my front wheel (nice dent into the rim that was 2 days old) in to the path of rear wheel which proceeded to f-up that wheel and put a 4-5" gash in my new tire. I carry a 60" hi-lift and a 4 or 6 ton bottle.

Regarding JD... I kept on wondering why he kept on saying 'Jack Off' while we were lifting a couple of trucks on Cleghorn! Now I know! ;)

how is 17" of overall height enough to lift a tire? not lifing the front end by the engine lift point....you putting that under the LCA?

Yes lca or axle - this jack is great to lift the wheel not the frame. Or if you are going to lift the frame you could use a rachet strap to compress/keep your spring compressed (on front end) so the you lift the tire with the frame.

I always bring a ~17 x 17 square of plywood to rest jacks on.

    3 ways to go...

u can use the good ole fashion wooden block

    or

weld on an extension to the saddle

    or

    lift under the LCA
