So serious question for everybody...How often do you weigh your powder charge? I put every charge on the scale just to be sure :anonymous: but I know people that do it every 10-15 throws

Production rounds, every 50. For any sub moa they go through the charge master twice.

Fair enough. Just curious. I'm a little crazy about everything being just so when I reload which does not lend to any kind of speed...but they all shoot exactly the same :D

when i build my 06 and 308. i measure every charge 50.5 on the 06 and 41 on the 308. i check the seating of every round and make each one within a thousandth of an inch.
i did a test run back in October on my 06. i went with 3 rounds of factory Barnes, 3 at 49.5, 3 at 50, and 3 at 50.5. i locked my rifle in a lead sled and had the crosshairs on the same dots for each load. i was suprised that the factory rounds were more than 1.5moa and my 50.5 were less than .5moa. then i measured the length of the barnes adn pulled the powder and measured the weight. not very consistent for 50 bucks a box

A lot of people have done a lot of testing on power measures accuracy and affect on actual group size. Good measures throwing most powders along with good technique throw accurate enough not to affect most shooting. I check every 10-20 rounds for rifle and every 50 for pistol. I have yet to have a measure throw bad once properly set up. Technique and setup is a lot of it. I like the baffle about 1/3 to 1/4 from the bottom and always keep powder above the baffle.

That said, there are some large grain powders that don't meter well. With those I have to measure every load. Otherwise it is just extra work that is not needed. Certainly not wrong if that's what you want to do, but in most cases not a step that actually matters.

Also, bullet lengths and weights vary. What matters is location of the ogive and not OAL. If really OCD, sort bullets with a comparator and scale before loading.

If loading for precision, a bigger impact is sorting brass based on weight and neck thickness, not full length resizing, and measuring runout of your loaded ammo. Differences in internal capacity of your case has a bigger affect on pressure and velocities than the typical variance of a thrown charge. Runout is everything. If you are not checking it, it may not matter what all you've done anyway.

Of course, most people are limited by their shooting ability or their guns ability. I personally have no desire to shoot a benchrest rifle that requires time consuming techniques like neck turning. I'd rather spend less time at the loading bench and more time behind the trigger. I find reading the wind and other external factors to be a bigger issue than squeezing an extra tenth of an inch of accuracy from my rifle.

So am i the only one using the auto dispenser?? I use a powder throw for the orher calibers but any of the precision rounds go through the auto then onto the beam scale before seeing the case.
