new transmissions

hey guys i have a quick question for you. My transmission is blown and i have to put a new one in. The Geico man told me that toyota only sells a new transmission in a new vehicle, and the best thing they can get me is a remanufactured one from toyota. Can this be true? or is the insurance guy just not wanting to dish out the money for a new one?

i hit a deer and took out the tranny cooler which caused all the fluid to drain. Then the body shop drove it with no fluid in it

 

sounds like the body shop is resposible for the replacement. if it were me i would insist on a new one or one that came out of a truck that had near the same amount of miles as yours,they are out there,but few and far between

 

is a remanufactured transmission a bad thing?

 

as long as it comes with a toyota warranty i wouldn't worry at all

 

yea its all covered by warranty, Im just a little nervous being its not new.

 

I don't thing there would be anything wrong with a remanufactured transmission from Toyota. If a Toyota transmission is like GM and Ford it will come with a bulletproof warranty. If it were me I think I'd investigate the strength of the Toyota warranty and not worry about whether is was new.

27,000. I was pushing for one untill the guy told me that i cant get a new one unless i buy a new vehicle. I figared i would investigate this before i fight with them about it. i want to know the facts so i have an argument.

i called the toyota parts department this morning and they told me that i could not get a new transmission from toyota. Looks like the geico man was telling the truth. Thats still very odd in my opinion
