My aunt traded in her landcruiser, same model, she went and got a car. I guess to save on gas.

So uh....is anyone aware of any great job postings in the Odessa/Midland area? Indeed, monster, etc. are kinda dry. I've recently applied to Apache but in this job market im sure they (and anyone else) can be picky and not in a hurry to fill positions

    WELCOME TO TACOMA WORLD!!!!!

Second, Oil isnt booming like it use to so I would expect that the market is dry. My little brother was an MWD out in Midland and they let him go right when the market fell. Even in Houston its pretty hard to hold a job in Exxon or Anadarko's office building right now. My other little brother's father-in-law is an accountant for for Ana and is always scared of loosing his job. I would shoot for moving into a technology gig but I would start preparing now since the industry is starting to settle and the giant boom of jobs is starting to settle unless you are a veteran.

Oil never lasts. Get it when it's there and bank it.

Thanks for the welcome! Long time reader.

Technology like IT? I mean I'm a great googler but that can only take me so far lol.

Yeah oil is reigning king over here. I'm more office/white collar worker (though currently working blue collar job) it offers a bit more stability and range of opportunity but still oil slump is a oil slump

Yupp an IT job :D There are people that are self taught and some that are school bred. It doesnt hurt to do some computer classes at a college or online and get a couple of certifications. I started at the bottom in a call center and worked my way up. Now I am going to be teaching people about Openstack for an awesome company. I try to tell people that start off you will be at the bottom and it takes time to get where you want to be. Working your way up the IT ladder is half the fun.

IT isnt for everyone and some people do better at other things. Find you niche and go from there. You can hate your job but you definitely have to love your career.

There is also a quote button so people can get notified when you respond to their comment just an FYI ;)

I had two comments and couldn't figure out the multi quote from my iPhone lol. I didn't want to have two separate comments so I just made a comment and threw it out there.

No worries! There's no etiquette on this forum and we're all a bunch of rebels so quote away! There's been plenty of people going HAM on here for not apparent reason. Just ask @ChadsPride that guy is all over the place :spy:

Haha chad fella is the excited puppy of the group?
Believe it or not I'm in the truck waiting on my coworker to finish his breakfast and a quicksand Tacoma drove by. Still had the dealership tags so he must have just gotten it. So far only quicksand color I've seen is a 4Runner, and one of not two (didn't catch the driver to see if it's the same person) tacomas not including this guy. Ima take it as a sign of good luck in my job search

For what it's worth, I'm an IT manager and constantly hiring. In the Austin market, there are more jobs available than techs, so if you can swing it, tech is the place to be.

What company do you work for? I am moving to Mirantis to teach Openstack but have been a long time Linux Admin.

I've often thought about moving to private sector and getting into IT. I went into undergrad as a comp sci but hated doing programming when it was an assignment when before I'd do it for fun. Still really good at it- built my own computer, de facto IT guy at my office- but haven't done anything formal with that in ages. Austin seems like a good place to make the jump if I decided to do so...

You might have to take a salary hit making the transition, but the money comes fast if you're good.
